TITLE: Program Assistant
HOURS: Part-time (21 hours a week) position available, flexible, some evenings required
PROGRAM: Plymouth WIC
SALARY: $25.60 per hour
BENEFITS: Medical, dental, holiday, paid earned leave, retirement, etc.
DUTIES: Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Program Assistant responsibilities will include the following:
- Perform general reception tasks at WIC sites with respect to client confidentiality and customer service.
- Verify client eligibility for certification in the WIC program regarding income qualification, identity and residence.
- Provide education and information regarding participant’s rights and responsibilities, authorized signatures, shoppers, WIC foods, and using benefits at authorized vendors.
- Provide referrals to MassHealth, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Transitional Aid to Families of Dependent Children programs, and other community-based health/human service programs.
- Provide notification for end of certification, missed benefits, and/or ineligibility to receive WIC benefits.
- Oversee benefit issuance for prescribed food prescription including (re)issuing food/formula prescription benefits, captures participant authorized signatures for benefit issuance, and security of WIC card stock.
- Perform confidential file management tasks.
- Conduct quality assurance activities.
- All other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or GED equivalent. One year experience in customer service field. Must have good interpersonal and communication skills and be sensitive to the needs of a culturally diverse population. Ability to travel between Plymouth, Wareham, Rockland and Middleboro.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associates degree in Human Services or related field preferred. Two years of direct client service in a health care, human or community service agency preferred. Bilingual preferred.
