POSITION: Full-time 12-Month Secretarial Position / Secretary to Elementary School Principal
LOCATION: Roxbury Elementary School
- 260 Days per Year
- SALARY Clerical, Grade A-1
- HOURS 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- 7 Hours Per Day
- 1 Hour Unpaid Lunch
- Union position - OAPSE Local 475
- POSITION START DATE - ASAP
- 60 - day probationary period starts August 12, 2024.
- Must be able to type 60 W.P.M.
- Must pass a clerical skill test.
- 2 weeks paid vacation per year.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Shall excel in all secretarial and office skills and procedures necessary for the proper execution, operation, and efficiency of the Elementary School Principal’s office.
- Shall have the ability to communicate and deal with people in a congenial and positive manner.
- Shall exhibit acceptable standards of emotional stability, moral character, sound health and be physically able to perform necessary job responsibilities.
- Shall excel in the verbal and written command of the English language and grammar.
- Shall excel in the working knowledge of word processing, data processing and other related business technology and machines.
- Shall have demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Shall exhibit a pleasant and dignified office manner, be neat in appearance and can adjust to change.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
CONTRACT WORK DAYS: 260 Days
RESPONSIBLE TO: Elementary School Principal
SUPERVISES: Clerical workers when appropriate and necessary.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To perform all secretarial services in a professional and courteous manner including but not limited to telephone and written communication skills.
- To be skilled in the operation of word processing, data processing, copying, duplicating and other related business machines.
- May be required to direct and supervise the work of other secretarial or clerical employees.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Aids in data collection and informational materials pertinent to the office.
- Screens all visitors and telephone calls to the Elementary School Principal’s office, assists callers and makes value judgments regarding action on many requests, answering questions and disposing of such matters promptly and effectively where possible.
- Maintains accurate files of all correspondence, records, information, and important data.
- Compiles a directory of substitute teachers and makes necessary contact as required.
- Maintains staff records for professional, personal, and sick leave.
- Initiates purchase orders, requisitions for school supplies, warehouse ordering and deposits and accounts for all building monies.
- Keeps an accurate appointment calendar.
- Assists other secretaries when assigned or available.
- Requests and maintains stationery and supplies for the smooth operation of the principal’s office.
- Maintains a professional and pleasant telephone manner and can meet and collaborate pleasantly with other people in the system.
- Maintains respect for confidential information, using discretion in deciding what is said to an individual.
- Composes letters and other correspondence with correct spelling and proper grammar.
- Carries out oral and written instructions following a minimum of explanation.
- Acquires knowledge of all teachers and classified employees in the school as to department or location.
- Maintains a working knowledge of all office machines and equipment, including use of word processing and database on a personal computer. Initiates contact for service and repair of equipment as required.
- May be required to act as intermediate in chain of command, passing on executive orders from their superior to teachers and classified employees, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $18.50 - $24.50 per hour
