Title: Aquatic Coach
The Aquatic Coach (Swimming), with direction from the Aquatic Training Specialist assigned to the CPD Swim Club, will be assigned to a cluster of
facilities, rotating between those facilities and working with local coaches to provide quality swim team practices. The Aquatic Coach will work with the local coaches to provide a quality practice experience for the athletes and, where necessary, will provide support and expertise for local coaches to make improvements to local practices. The Aquatic Coach will communicate with athletes and parents about opportunities with the CPD Swim Club and how to participate in regional and national swim meets. The Aquatic Coach will evaluate and recruit athletes to participate in invitational practices or represent the Park District at regional and national swim meets. On weekends, the Aquatic Coach will manage the team at competition or, when not competing, will run an invitational practice at a centralized facility. The Aquatic Coach will be responsible for maintaining the TEAM Unify website and facilitating athlete account set-up and swim meet registration where appropriate. Aquatic Coaches will occasionally facilitate trainings and clinics for local coaches, instructors, lifeguards, or parents.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under supervision, coaches the Water Polo Club or Swim Club members. Attends weekend water polo tournaments or swim meets as needed. Performs related duties as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTES:
Provides instruction and training to children in sports and competitive athletics in swimming and water polo. Adapts programs to reflect different levels of participant skill development. Provides information on rules of individual and team sports. Enforces and promotes safety guidelines. Sets up sports equipment and apparatus.
DESIRABLE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience:
Enrollment in a college or university supplemented by one to two years of sports or coaching experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.
Certification Requirements:
Applicants must have one or more of the following certifications at the time of hire:
USA Swimming Coach Certification
US Water Polo Coach Certification
American Water Polo Coach Certification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Basic knowledge of water polo. Basic knowledge of games and activities played in the water. Effective oral communications skills. Ability to enforce safety rules. Ability to lead and coach water activities. Ability to exercise good judgment. Ability to work with individuals or groups of individuals or children.
