Essential Functions:

1. Processes tax payments and water/sewer payments at the counter or from mail;
2. Enters payments and runs edits to match deposits;
3. Helps process outgoing water and sewer, and tax bills for mailing;
4. Responds to customers at the counter and answers the phones; assists or directs appropriately;
5. Calculates water and sewer bills; checks taxes, impact fees, property upkeep, reconnects, and meter readings;
6. Reconciles cash drawer; prepares bank deposits; transports deposits/payments to and from the bank;
7. Opens and distributes incoming mail; prepares postage for outgoing mail;
8. Tracks on/off tickets and bills as needed;
9. Performs a variety of routine administrative tasks like data entry, making copies, running reports, etc.
10. Processes payments for parking tickets, police reports, fingerprinting, and code enforcement invoices;
11. Prepares and mails business, railroad, and utility personal property tax bills;
12. Processes property transfers;
13. Keeps supervisor informed of unusual or detrimental issues in a timely fashion;
14. Cultivates and maintains positive relationships with City staff and the public;
15. Keeps informed of current department practices by attending workshops and educational programs or reading specialized literature; and
16. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and abilities:
The employee is expected to perform or possess the following:
1. Knowledge of the City of Fruitland’s policies and procedures;
2. Act as a representative of the City of Fruitland to the public;
3. Working knowledge of basic accounting principles;
4. Effectively and efficiently maintain and track water and sewer, taxes, and other financial payment records;
5. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, the Internet, e-mail systems, and other relevant software or accounting packages;
6. Successfully communicate with other staff members and members of the public.
7. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and work as a team.
8. Establish priorities and organize workload effectively and efficiently while paying attention to detail and complete assignments under pressure and meet deadlines.
9. Maintain a pleasant and productive working atmosphere.
10. Respond properly in emergency situations.
11. Keep relevant parties informed of major issues and recommend changes as appropriate.
Education and Experience Required:
1. One year related accounting experience
2. Valid Maryland driver’s license.

Pay: $35,360.00 - $37,710.40 per year
