JOB SUMMARY:
The City of Hampton is accepting applications for a Parks and Recreation Attendant for the City of Hampton’s Parks Department. The Parks Department maintains, operates, and manages selected public parks and recreation facilities in the City of Hampton, including sports fields, picnic areas, playgrounds, recreation centers, trails/greenways, and any future blue ways. Employees in this position perform un-skilled or semi-skilled, manual work, which is performed alone or as part of crew, involving a variety of tasks in the cleaning and maintenance of City parks, grounds, buildings, and facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
▪ Under general supervision, carries out job duties related to the planned operations of parks and recreation facilities and programs
▪ Must ensure that park facilities are opened and closed at established times
▪ May be asked to provide input to Street Superintendent for department strategic planning and capital improvement recommendations
▪ Assists with maintenance schedules as set forth by the Street Superintendent
▪ Under the direction of the Street Superintendent, researches and proposes strategies to improve recreation programs for City of Hampton residents
▪ Promotes Hampton residents and visitor compliance with all rules, regulations, and safety practices; reports all accidents/injuries and ensures that all receive proper care

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS CON’T:
▪ Assists with the oversight of various programs and events offered by the department, including but not limited to youth programming, adult programming and youth and adult tournaments
▪ Employees are required to perform moderately heavy physical labor in all types of outdoor weather using a variety of tools and equipment. Depending on their assignments, employees must be skilled in operating light and heavy equipment, and perform other duties as required.
▪ Also included is assisting with set-up and clean-up of special events, and operating equipment specific to the area. Work involves interaction with other City employees, the public, and other diverse groups. The employee is required to perform physical labor in all types of outdoor weather using a variety of tools and equipment.
▪ Mows grass, removes leaves, weeds, and debris; empties, cleans, and sanitizes outdoor trash/garbage containers; collects trash and litter; cleans athletic fields (basketball, tennis, baseball, and soccer fields; tennis courts); park grounds and trails; restrooms, and other outdoor areas (pavilions, playgrounds, etc.)
▪ Prepares athletic fields with field markings as directed, plants and trims shrubs, plants, and flowers
▪ Keeps sidewalk areas neat and clean; performs painting, minor touch-up work, and other minor building maintenance tasks
▪ In winter, keeps walkways clear of snow and ice; drive and operate specialty parks vehicles
▪ Maintains power tools and equipment (check oil, clean air filters, mixes fuels, repairs spark plugs and weed eater heads); assists in moving and installing recreation equipment; assists other workers with repairs
▪ Assists with repairs to playground equipment; manages, performs athletic turf maintenance
▪ Applies herbicide and pesticide to landscape, athletic fields
▪ Paints interior and exterior park facilities; cleans tables, chairs, and other equipment
▪ Works special events; sets up tables, chairs, trash cans, barricades, parking lot signs, etc.
▪ Arranges and sets up/break downs equipment in rooms for City-sponsored meetings and functions
▪ Sweeps, wet/dry mop, polish, and vacuum floors; shampoo carpets (using powered cleaning equipment), spot clean carpets as needed (including carpets on stairs)
▪ Washes walls, woodwork, and windows and mirrors; pick up trash and debris inside the building, empty trash containers, replace trash bags, sanitize trash cans (bleach, soap, and water), and take all trash to the trash dumpster

▪ Cleans and disinfects the kitchen and kitchen equipment (refrigerator, microwave, etc.)
▪ Cleans tables and chairs furniture, sinks and counter tops; replaces light bulbs and clean light fixtures
▪ Adjusts shades and blinds; keeps interior windows and lower outdoor windows clean
▪ Cleans air vents; vacuum blinds, and windowsills to keep free of dust
▪ Care for indoor plants (dust artificial plants, water and fertilize real plants)
▪ Cleans up spills; cleans and disinfects inside drinking fountains
▪ Sets up microphones and sound connections
▪ Adjusts thermostats; sets up and stores whiteboards, easels, TV/VCR as needed
▪ Assists groups/individuals using facilities as requested/required
▪ Cleans up after City sponsored events/meetings
▪ Clears clogged plumbing; performs minor, routine building repairs
▪ Performs minor repairs and adjustments to janitorial equipment, cleaning machines
▪ Shall perform all other duties as prescribed by the Street Superintendent or designated supervisor
▪ May be asked to complete light carpentry, drywall repair, basic plumbing, basic HVAC, basic electric under general supervision

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
▪ Maintains records of maintenance and cleaning activities, including work orders, and daily work log/checklists
▪ Picks up and delivers supplies
▪ Installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems
▪ Prevents trespassing in and around the building and notifying supervisors or police of any suspicious or criminal activity
▪ Locks/unlocks doors at appropriately scheduled times
▪ Locks all doors and turns off lights when securing the building at closing when no other functions are scheduled for later
▪ Notifies supervisors when any cleaning or maintenance of inaccessible areas is required, when supplies are needed, when any damage to the structure or equipment is noted, when repairs to any tools or equipment are needed, or when questions arise about any work-related issues
▪ Ability to read, speak, and write in the English language
▪ Practices safe and precautionary measures always
▪ Maintains safe work area; places and removes cones, barricades, warning devices at work sites to ensure safety of work crew and public; cleans up work sites upon completion of job
▪ Picks up all tools and equipment
▪ May be asked to work concessions and may operate concession stand; prepares food, drinks, and other snacks as needed for patrons at recreational facilities; cleans concession area and deals with the exchange of cash
▪ Performs layout operations of fields for various sporting events, which shall include, but will not be limited to field striping, base placement, field dragging, line edging, yard line marking, etc.
▪ Basic knowledge of maintenance and repair; of lawn mowers, small tractors, chainsaws, weed trimmers, irrigation systems, field markers, pitching machines, and other related equipment; working ability to repair equipment; to read, interpret and apply repair manuals, construction plans, specifications, and blueprints; to follow oral and written instructions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
▪ High School diploma or GED equivalent
▪ Must possess a minimum of a valid Georgia Class “C” driver’s license upon hire and maintain throughout tenure with the City of Hampton
