Summary:
Mid Island Day Camp is looking for outdoor summer camp certified Red Cross Water Safety Instructors. Qualified candidates must be 16 years old at the time of certification completion. We offer course opportunities at the Mid Island Y JCC.
Key areas of responsibility:
· Lead and instruct swim instruction for campers ages 3-12.
· Give direction to counselors who are with the campers in instructional group
· Enforces rules and regulations pertaining to the use of the aquatic facility.
· Completes all records and reports associated with the campers they are providing swim instruction to including bi-weekly evaluations.
· Hold current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification for the camp season (6/27/24-8/22/24)
· Completes any additional duties as directed by the Aquatic Director or Head Swim Instructor.
Supervisory Responsibility:
Responsible for the campers in their instructional groups throughout the day.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time temp (Summer) position. Staff report from around 8:30am-4pm.
Required Education and Experience
Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification.
Ability to successfully complete a practical interview.
Ability to teach swim lessons.
At least 1 year of experience working with children.
Knowledge and Skills:
Considerable swimming skill.
Ability to supervise campers.
Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to prepare accurate camper swim evaluations.
