Woodbury University invites applications for the position of Associate Dean of Students. The Associate Dean of Students serves as a dynamic leader within the academic community, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment conducive to student success and personal development. Reporting directly to the Dean of Students, this role involves comprehensive oversight of all aspects of Student Affairs, including Residence Life and Housing, Student Activities/Student Government, Wellness, Student Conduct, Clubs and Organizations, and initiatives.
This position qualifies for university sponsored employee benefit plans and programs (e.g., group health insurance, life insurance, tax deferred annuity plan, annual vacation, sick, and paid holidays), subject to the eligibility requirements and conditions of each plan and program.
Salary/Hourly Range: $65,000 - $95,000 (commensurate with experience and qualifications).
Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Strategic Planning:
- Provide visionary leadership in developing and implementing strategic initiatives aligned with the institution's mission, vision, and values.
- Collaborate with campus stakeholders to assess student needs and develop innovative programs and services to enhance the student experience.
- Serve as the senior leader of Student Affairs at the Woodbury campus reporting to the Dean of Students on the Redlands campus and the Senior Campus Official at Woodbury (during transition).
2. Student Affairs Management:
- Oversee all aspects of Student Affairs, including Residence Life and Housing, Student Activities/Student Government, Wellness, and Student Conduct, Clubs and Organizations.
- Ensure that policies, procedures, and practices within each area are aligned with institutional goals, federal and state legislation, and promote student engagement, well-being, and success.
- Develop, implement, and hold accountable for the division’s budget.
3. Supervision and Staff Development:
- Provide supervision, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for staff within the Student Affairs department.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages creativity, innovation, and continuous improvement.
4. Student Support and Advocacy:
- Serve as a primary advocate and resource for students, addressing concerns, providing support services, and promoting a culture of inclusivity and respect.
- Collaborate with campus partners to develop and implement strategies to support the academic, personal, and social development of all students.
- Support students by attending on and off-campus programming.
5. Crisis Management and Student Conduct:
- Oversee the administration of student conduct processes, ensuring fairness, consistency, and adherence to institutional policies and regulations.
- Provide leadership in responding to student crises, emergencies, and other challenging situations, working collaboratively with campus partners to ensure student safety and well-being.
- Lead the Crisis Assessment Response and Education and oversee the case management of needed care.
- Serve as Professional Staff on Duty, varies one to two times a month.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- A Master’s degree is required. A Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience are required.
- 3-5 years of previous experience with progressive responsibilities.
- Must demonstrate a record of success in student conduct.
- Must possess general knowledge of higher education.
- Title IX certification and judicial protocol in university / college setting preferred.
- Must have strong communication skills and must be able to work within a diverse community.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must be committed to university goals and mission.
- Results oriented and the ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently and effectively is essential.
- Strong professional presentation skills with comfort presenting to large and small groups is necessary.
- Computer proficiency required. Advanced knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Word preferred.
- Knowledge of:
- Education Administration - Understanding of educational principles, policies, and procedures relevant to higher education institutions.
- Student Affairs - Knowledge of student development theory, counseling techniques, and best practices in student services.
- Legal and Ethical Compliance - Familiarity with laws and regulations governing student rights, privacy (FERPA), Title IX, ADA, etc.
- Diversity and Inclusion - Awareness of issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and strategies for promoting a welcoming and inclusive campus environment.
- Academic Programs - Awareness of academic programs, curriculum requirements, and academic policies.
- Crisis Management -Knowledge of crisis intervention protocols and procedures to respond effectively to emergencies or student crises.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the College’s automobile insurance carrier.
