We have an immediate need for a fly shop retail sales associate. Looking for someone to work through August at a minimum, but into September best. Looking for an applicant with a good knowledge of fly fishing within an hour of Bozeman and who has previous retail experience.
Montana Angler is looking for fly shop retail sales associates for our downtown Bozeman retail fly shop. The ideal candidate will have a good mix of both fly fishing and customer service experience. We need someone with a flexible schedule, who can work 40 hours per week including weekends and some holidays. Most of our seasonal staff need to be available early June through August at minimum.
On a daily basis you will be required to interact with the public, greeting every person with respect and professionalism that walks through the door, regardless of their fly fishing experience. Being downtown, we get a wide variety of locals and tourists with a wide range of fly fishing knowledge. You need to be able to adapt to a variety of personalities and have conversations with strangers all the time, and be able to convert those conversations into retail sales.
The ideal fly shop retail sales associates should be passionate about fly fishing, have previous retail/customer service experience, have a friendly and outgoing personality, be reliable and responsible, have basic math skills and possess the willingness to work. A strong knowledge of our local fisheries is ideal, but we are willing to work with the right candidate that might be new to Bozeman, with the expectation that you will learn our local waters quickly. You do not need to be a complete expert, but we are looking for someone who is passionate and involved with the fly fishing community and lifestyle. You will need to give accurate information about fishing locations and access sites, and current insect activity and be able to recommend retail products that will enhance the customer’s experience on the water or otherwise. When customers are not in the shop we expect staff to spend that time restocking merchandise, keeping the shop clean and tidy, learning about product, checking on river and fishing conditions, etc.
This fly shop retail sales associates position can serve as a great stepping stone into the fly fishing industry, or perhaps a forward movement for someone with existing fly shop experience. You will be exposed to more than just the retail side of the industry, as our large outfitting office is located in the same building. You will work alongside others who have made this industry their profession and opportunities to advance within the field are ever present.
