Overview:
We are looking for highly motivated and skilled change-makers to join our team at District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). We seek individuals who are passionate about transforming the DC school system and making a significant difference in the lives of students, families, principals, teachers, and the school community.
The Behavior Technician will collaborate with school teams across DCPS to facilitate strategies and interventions for individual students with varying disabilities and challenging behaviors. This role will have the opportunity to support various schools by servicing students on a short-term basis. The Behavior Technician will provide therapeutic assistance by creating and implementing intervention plans so students can access instruction and Individual Education Program (IEP) goals.
This position is a safety-sensitive position. As a result, throughout employment this position will be subject to the Employee Mandatory Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Review assigned student cases and develop a plan of action on how to address specific challenges.
- Provide modeling and guidance to school teams on how to develop and implement strategies to address challenging behaviors.
- Collect and maintain accurate data and documentation on student behavior.
- Collaborate with the teachers, paraprofessionals, related services providers, and other school-based team members to address and manage difficult student and/or classroom behaviors.
- Implement strategies to promote positive behavior and skill development.
- Develop a postive rapport with student, families and school staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or the equivalent and passing paraprofessional exam scores.
- Associate degree or has earned at least 48 college credit hours from an accredited college or university, preferred.
- Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with students, families and school staff.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to different behavioral strategies.
- Practical knowledge of educational methods and techniques.
