A Material Prep Technician is responsible for preparing, handling, and organizing raw materials and components for the manufacturing process. They ensure that materials are available in the right quantities and specifications, maintaining a smooth flow of production operations. A Material Prep Technician is a vital link in the manufacturing process, ensuring that materials are prepared accurately and efficiently, ultimately contributing to the overall success of the manufacturing plant. This role requires attention to detail, safety consciousness, and effective communication with other team members and departments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspect incoming raw materials for quality, quantity, and compliance with specifications.
- Identify and report any discrepancies or defects to the appropriate personnel.
- Safely handle, transport, and store materials using forklifts, pallet jacks, or other equipment as needed.
- Label, tag, and categorize materials for easy identification.
- Measure and cut raw materials to the required dimensions using appropriate tools and machinery.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory levels, including stock levels and consumption.
- Perform regular inventory audits and reconcile any discrepancies.
- Perform routine maintenance on material handling equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Report equipment malfunctions and request repairs as needed.
- Work closely with production teams to ensure materials are available on time to meet production schedules.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors regarding material-related issues.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Prior experience in material preparation or a related field within a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Good housekeeping practices to keep the work area safe and organized.
- Plus, if the candidate has experience in reading blueprints.
- Welding experience is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and record keeping.
- Must be proficient in the use of electric tools to make customized crates such as a saw, drill, hammer, etc. required to use.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Stamina and physical fitness to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for handling tools and equipment.
