POSITION OVERVIEW
Our program’s nurses are responsible for the general medical care of all of our residents. This is accomplished through managing medications, weekly medical and psychiatric clinics with physicians, sick call for residents, obtaining consents from parents, supervising off-campus medical appointments, lab testing (blood work, drug screens, etc.), and participating as an active member of the team.
WITH WHOM WOULD I INTERACT?
The position interacts daily with adolescent males and females in a residential setting, their families, the entire treatment team, and support personnel (direct care, nursing, doctors, administration, administrative support, etc.).
WHAT ARE THE DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES?
- Initial admissions nursing assessments
- Assist psychiatrist in medication rounds
- Order medication
- Monitor the Medication Administration Log
- Review Medication/Disposal Medication Error forms along with the Clinical Director
- Prepare medications for passes and discharges
- Conduct medication training for staff
- Conduct health education classes for residents
- Provide on-call supervision regarding medical issues and medication consultation or errors
- Arrange Medicaid coverage and handle health insurance issues
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB?
- Possess a current license to practice nursing in the State of Texas
- Two or more years experience in a hospital or residential treatment setting
- Experience in psychiatric or residential treatment setting preferred
- Clinical experience working with adolescents and families with substance abuse, trauma, emotional, and/or behavioral problems
- Schedule flexibility to work early evenings and weekends, if needed
- Ability to work autonomously with little supervision
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Have an excellent driving record
- Drug free
- Criminal history free (FBI fingerprint background check required)
WHAT ARE THE PREFERENCES FOR THIS JOB?
- Registered nurses only
- English and Spanish speaking. Higher starting salary for Spanish/English speaking candidates.
- Previous experience working with adolescents
- Previous experience working in mental health and/or substance abuse treatment
