Primary Function
Lead R&D projects to develop materials solutions for the polymer converting industry that will help grow and enhance the commercial success of our business. Provide in depth technical support to our technical service, manufacturing and commercial teams. Evaluate new raw materials to improve performance in products or to reduce costs
Responsibilities:
- Lead R&D product development and product improvement projects.
- Develop new or improved products utilizing existing or new raw materials.
- Design and execute experimental plans, including data analysis and interpretation.
- Document test results in written reports.
- Assist in process development and improvements.
- Provide support to manufacturing team for scale up trials.
- Evaluate new raw materials, including analytical and performance testing, in Ampacet products.
- Provide technical assistance and product recommendations to our technical service and commercial teams.
- Provide customer support as needed.
- Assist lab personnel with technical service requests as needed.
- Interface with vendors and industry experts on polymer additive technologies.
- Travel to customers occasionally.
- Assist with QC method development.
- Participate on cross functional teams as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, polymer science, materials science, or related field of study is preferred.
- Knowledge of processing methods used in the polymer masterbatch, polymer compounding industry.
- Understanding of resins, additives and formulations used in polymer masterbatch and polymer compounding for polyolefins and engineering thermoplastics.
- Knowledge of materials characterization and mechanical test methods.
- Familiarity with lab analytical techniques such as FTIR, DSC, TGA, GC-MS and HPLC.
- Knowledge of flexible packaging, rigid packaging and injection molding converting processes.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Able to effectively interface with other departments within Ampacet
- Maintain confidentiality with proprietary formulations.
- Self-motivated with ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
- Fluent in Engish, both written and spoken
- Able to travel occasionally
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- 5+ years experience in the polymer masterbatch, polymer compounding industry
- Experience with formulating, additives and properties of engineering thermoplastics such as Nylon, PET, polycarbonate, polycarbonate blends, ABS.
