About BridgeUP+OUT
BridgeUP+OUT are partner programs that provide comprehensive and long-term support to youth from low-income and underrepresented communities with the intention of making a transformative impact on their lives. BridgeUP+OUT is designed to support NYC teens reach their academic and developmental potential, both in high school and beyond. In addition to the academic support, mentorship, and networking opportunities offered through these programs, BridgeUP+OUT encourages all of its youth to explore and pursue activities that spark their vocational and career interests.
Located at a parochial high school in the South Bronx, NY, the work of BridgeUP+OUT focuses on supporting Scholars as they develop the skills, confidence, and mindset necessary to become innovative agents of change in their own lives and communities.
The Role
Reporting to the Program Director of BridgeUP+OUT, Program Coaches play a pivotal role in cultivating an invaluable out-of-school time experience for enrolled students.
>> PROGRAM PREPARATION & DELIVERY:
- Collaborate with team members to oversee program space and ensure that it is welcoming and inspiring to youth, and serves as a functional learning environment with established daily operations & routines.
- Collaborate with team members in planning, preparing, and implementing engaging advisory sessions and learning activities that encourage inquiry, reinforce important academic concepts, and foster skill development in social-emotional learning, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.
- Serve as a positive role model and engage with all participants in a caring, trusting, and supportive manner.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver workshops to students, parents, and/or alumni that cover a range of topics related to academic behaviors, post-secondary planning, Social Emotional Learning, etc.
- Support students in applying for volunteer opportunities, summer jobs, and internships/externships.
- Skillfully navigate Program’s values and practices as well as those of our parochial high school partners.
- Help execute program-related field trips and special events, which may include college visits and college fairs.
- Assist Program’s efforts of building a network of partners (individuals and organizations) interested in providing career mentorship, informational interviews, workplace visits, externships, internships, and guest speakers
- Participate in ongoing supervision, professional development and other staff training.
- Coordinate with internal and external organizations and stakeholders, as needed.
- Facilitate program evaluation and assessment.
>> INDIVIDUAL SCHOLAR PLANNING & MONITORING:
- Lead an assigned cohort of high school students, fostering strong relationships to effectively serve as their primary program support, as well as a liaison between students, parents, school staff, etc.
- Provide students with individualized post-secondary advisement and resources in the areas of academic achievement, school success (attendance, behavior, personal, and social issues), and life-skills (e.g. organization skills, time management, individual and social responsibility, and work ethic) that impact school performance and post-secondary access, readiness, enrollment, and success.
- Maintain weekly progress notes, assess student data (attendance, course grades, activities, etc.) continuously and, in consultation with BridgeUP+OUT team, parents, and teachers to provide meaningful interventions that keep students on track to graduate from high school on-time and to pursue an appropriate post-secondary plan (education, vocation, otherwise).
- Provide career guidance, which includes but is not limited to: resume review, job search strategies, cover letter writing, practicing interview techniques, and coaching how to search for employment and complete applications
- Perform other related duties as required.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Youth Development, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field; Advanced knowledge in youth development, specific to teens and young adults from underrepresented communities; Masters Degree a plus;
- Fluency in Spanish a plus;
- 3-5 years experience working with adolescents and/or young adults;
- Self-starter with the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and effectively manage a wide range of tasks/ projects;
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills;
- Demonstrated experience with curriculum/lesson writing and development;
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; ability to serve as an enthusiastic ambassador for the Program;
- High level of self-awareness, humility, optimism, integrity, and emotional intelligence;
- Strong learning orientation; value, accept and incorporate direct feedback;
- Commitment to working with adolescents and young adults from low-income and under-represented communities within New York City;
- Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $62,000.00 per year
