POSITION TITLE: LTC Data Entry Technician
REPORTS TO: Pharmacist in Charge/Pharmacist
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of a Licensed Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Data Entry Technician is capable of performing the following duties: Receives, Enters, Processes and Maintains Orders in the computer system.
The Pharmacy Data Entry Technician may also operate in capacity of work flow manager, and/or may assume responsibilities of Technician Supervisor and Scheduling Data Entry Technicians.
RESPONSIBILITES/ACCOUNTABILIES:
- Enter prescription orders into computer for filling new or refill orders using an imaged prescription.
- Enter data into computer system to fill prescriptions and to obtain reimbursement/payment.
- Identifies and resolves issues of denials or follow-up of claims. Performs Error Resolution. Knowledge of drugs, medical nomenclature, and metric system.
- Read and input written prescriptions and medical data.
- Ability to interpret physicians’ orders into the computerized medication Order system.
- Ability to perform drug calculations and interpret prescriptions.
- Perform computer system operations; includes order entry, billing, crediting, and updating medical records.
- Audits the input versus documentation and makes corrections as required.
- Maintains current knowledge of Medi-Cal regulations and Third Party and Part D Claims processing
· Verify all information is complete on the prescription.
- File documentation as required by MPLTC and pharmacy regulations
· Communicate with skilled nursing facilities to clarify orders.
· Send incomplete, unclear or rejected prescription to appropriate nursing facility for resolution.
· Update patient profile with all the necessary information from prescription.
· Ensure that patient’s allergies, therapies, and current medication are updated regularly in patient profile history.
· Assist with finding lost or missed orders on request.
· Log order status and delivery.
· Provide support for other pharmacy groups as needed.
· Maintain the work area clean and safe.
· Respond to customer inquiries as necessary. Address customer issues and inquiries as required.
- Assist in other phases of computer operations including billing procedures
- Produces reports and keeps management informed of unpaid claims and claims pending follow-up.
- Generates reports as needed.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIRMENTS:
- 1 year of experience in LTC required; Data Entry LTC experience a plus
- Knowledge of Medi-Cal regulations and Third Party and Part D Claims processing

POSITION TITLE: LTC Pharmacy Technician (Filling)
REPORTS TO: Pharmacist in Charge/Pharmacist
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of a Licensed Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician performs the following duties: Prepare, Count, Label, Package and Dispense Pharmaceuticals per Pharmacists approval.
The Pharmacy Technician may also operate in capacity of Lead Technician, Schedule II Technician, and/or may assume responsibilities of Technician Supervisor and Scheduling Fill Technicians.
RESPONSIBILITES/ACCOUNTABILIES:
- Under Pharmacist supervision, fill orders.
- Note on each prescription: Lot#, Expiration Date, and Initial Label on care, or unit dose package.
- Prepares, Packages, and affixes proper auxiliary labels on a “timely and efficient basis” specifying Name of Drug, Strength, Route of Administration, Quantities and Medication pass time.
- Reorders of Notifies the Purchasing Assistant or appropriate personnel of Medication and/or Supply needs through proper use of Reorder Log. Monitors back-order requests.
- Ensure, in coordination with Purchasing Assistant, that the inventory stock levels of drug items are appropriately maintained.
- Check for overages, shortages, damaged materials and reports discrepancies to supervisor, Purchasing Assistant, or appropriate personnel.
- Compounds Drug preparations under Pharmacist’s supervisions.
- Responsible for filling bulk products (Cycles), Blister Packs, putting away the order, staging deliveries, and filling controlled substances.
- Perform expiration dating review of all Medications n a scheduled basis or at each re-stocking period and provide the pharmacist with a list of all expired Medications.
- Replace emergency boxes (E-kits) as requested. Replaces medications.
- Maintain all related Compounding, Prescription Logs, Cycle Reports, and any other related files as determined by the Pharmacy Management.
- Clean all Compounding equipment and work areas Check equipment for calibration and safety
- Ensure proper dispensation of returned medication items; ensure proper reversal of credit claims.
- Perform Technician assignments for the day or by special assignment as requested by Pharmacy Management.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the specific pharmacy are/functions hired to work in.
- Courteously assist all customers, with proper phone etiquette.
- Maintain a neat, clean and organized work place at all times to avoid contamination.
- Assist, as needed, in keeping pharmacy clean and well organized (e.g. trash removal, daily cleaning etc.) Refill – Bottles, Vials, Bags, Bubble Packaging and Supplies.
- Ensure all records are correctly and properly stored via computer.
- Assist consultant Pharmacist/Nurse Consultant in correction/inspection duties via computer.
- Assist new employees in orientation and training.
SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIRMENTS:
- High school Diploma, or equivalent
- One (1) year previous Pharmacy Technician experience preferred.
- Previous Pharmacy of Health Care setting experience preferred.
- State issue Pharmacy Technician License preferred.
- Ability to read, write and understand the English language.
- Other educational/Vocational requirements as determined by management.
