Job Title: Class A Driver Department: Operations
Reports to: Operations Supervisors – Desk, Receiving, Trucking
Effective Date: 02/02/2024.
Compensation:
The newly hired employee rate is currently at a $250.00 daily rate/per diam.
Overtime/ FLSA Classification:
When granted overtime is paid daily after 8 hours worked and/or extra days worked outside of the employee’s assigned schedule.
Job Summary:
The Driver is responsible for producing deliveries to customers while ensuring the integrity of the product is maintained and delivered promptly. Key responsibilities include unloading, inspecting, and processing paperwork to guarantee a satisfied customer base. The Driver represents S. Katzman Produce and must be customer service-focused and complete deliveries professionally.
Essential Functions:
· Perform daily deliveries to customers.
· Drive in a safe and cautious manner, abide by laws to avoid fines, tickets, and or violations incurred.
· Communicate regularly with Trucking Supervisors throughout route duration.
· Perform tasks related to assisting customers with their orders, ensuring an optimal customer experience.
· Maintain current knowledge and follow DOT regulations and requirements.
· Accurately log hours of service into Samsara system.
· Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections using the Samsara system.
· Ensure loads and equipment are secured prior to leaving dock and customer locations.
· Properly count and verify delivered merchandise to ensure it matches the customer’s bill of lading.
· Communicate bill of lading discrepancies and customer issues to Trucking Supervisors.
· Perform COD/specials cash deliveries procedures while ensuring accuracy if cash counts and security of cash.
· Complete work tasks and assignments with a sense of urgency following procedures and guidelines set by the company.
· Maintain product knowledge and respective storage temperatures.
· Perform clerical tasks such as temperature logs, returns, and equipment inspection sheets.
· Ability to distinguish between products using different attributes including lot number, brand size, and quality.
· Immediately notify Trucking Supervisor of all vehicle accidents or issues on the road.
· Ensure immediate reporting and documentation of all vehicle accidents, including police/incident reports and pictures.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position is an entry level position, and it does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Required Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
· Must have a valid Class-A Commercial Driver’s License.
· Must have a current DOT physical medical certificate.
· Must have a clean driving record (MVR).
· Must be able to safely operate heavy powered equipment, such as an electric pallet jack or forklift. This skill can be trained.
· Must have a flexible work schedule, willing to work up to 14 hours per day.
· Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
· Must have a good understanding of general and food safety policies and procedures and be willing to abide by them. All Safety policies can be trained.
· Must be punctual and dependable and adhere to attendance policies.
· Must work well with others in a team-oriented environment with a positive attitude.
· Able to work independently.
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Education and Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent work experience
· 1+ years of experience as CDL class A truck driver
Work Environment
The position is exposed to the weather elements when working on the road. This will include exposure to extreme heat, humidity, rain, and cold weather. This position is expected to dress for these elements and follow all rules regarding proper protective equipment. This position may frequent a cold storage warehouse environment with degrees reaching close to freezing. This position will work around heavy machinery and racks stacked with products. This company operates from Sunday morning through Friday evening (24 hours/6 days per week). This position must be flexible to work any shift as they are assigned by the seniority policy.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to lift and maneuver items, up to 50 pounds repeatedly as needed throughout the shift, up to 10 hours.
· Prolonged periods of sitting, depending on route, up to 14 hours.
· Prolonged periods of walking/standing up to 14 hours per shift.
· Prolonged periods of bending and twisting within a 14-hour shift.
· Prolonged pulling and pushing of product and equipment up to 10 hours per shift.
· Engage in stooping or squatting repeatedly as needed throughout the shift, up to 14 hours.
· Must wear proper protective equipment: steel-toe/composite-toe boots, safety vests.
