The Surgical Technologist/First Assistant assists surgeon during operative and invasive procedures. Assures operating suite is adequately prepared for procedure. Monitors PAR level of all surgical instruments and supplies. Cleans and sterilizes all surgical instruments. Participates in departmental staff meetings and performance improvement activities. Maintains hemostasis by direct pressure, placement of ties, sutures, ligatures or other intraoperative technical functions, some of which include positioning of the patient, preparing the skin, use of electrocautery mono and bipolar, and closure of all body planes (peritoneum, fascia, subcutaneous, and skin). Insertion of drainage systems to tissue, selecting and applying appropriate wound dressings and any other duties incident to the surgical procedure deemed necessary and as directed by the surgeon.
Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Completion of an educational program for surgical technologists preferred
Certification as a Certified First Assistant preferred
BLS(CPR) Certification required
ACLS required
CPI -or similar documented training that specializes in the safe management of disruptive and assaultive behavior preferred.
Ability to work in groups.
