Education:
Equivalent to completion of high school, preferably supplemented with college-level courses in sociology, child and adolescent growth/development, ethnic studies and group dynamics, or related field.
Experience:
Two years experience working with problem youth in educational, rehabilitation, social, or violence prevention programs. (Must reflect in application upon submission)
License and Certification
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license.
Possession of an appropriate, valid California driver's license prior to the completion of the probationary period.
Ability to be covered under the District property/liability insurance.

Work Schedule
This position typically works part-time, five hours and forty-five minutes (5.75) per day, and observes the student calendar.
Salary
The initial hiring rate is at the first step ($21.83/hour) of the appropriate five-step salary schedule for the position. The probationary period is 130-work days in paid status. Upon completing the probationary period for permanent status, a one-step salary advance will be granted and shall establish an anniversary date upon which all future advances on the salary range shall be based.
Examination
The examination may consist of a qualifying multiple-choice examination, performance, and oral examination. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be required to take the exam and notified by email communication of the scheduled date, time, and location. A valid picture identification is required prior to admittance.

Work Environment
Work is performed mostly indoors, utilizing standard modern office equipment and special education assistive devices, in classrooms, offices, restrooms, etc. Indoor environment is temperature-controlled with heating and air conditioning. Work may also be performed outdoors such as walking between locations at sites, walking to and from the car for required off-site assignments and attending field trips, playground duty, bus duty, community-based instruction outings, PE etc. Exposure to school traffic, public contact (i.e. students, parents, site personnel), and classroom/office noise.
Physical Abilities:
Frequent sitting, some standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting at waist; fine dexterity and manipulation (i.e. handwriting, using manipulatives, iPad, tying shoes, etc.); some keyboarding/typing; operating standard office equipment; potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
