Autism Inspired Academy is an innovative school for students on the Autism Spectrum. Our school offers a low student-to-adult ratio, on-site, effective behavior support for teachers, and on-site training and support for implementing curricula. We Are looking for teachers to join our team who are driven, creative, and coachable.
Required: Earned a bachelor's degree from a fully accredited college or university. Two years’ experience working with children with special needs.
Preferred: Possession of, or eligibility for, a Florida Educators certificate required by the Florida Department of Education. Certification in the appropriate exceptional student area(s) and any content certification.
MAJOR FUNCTION: Responsible for the educational, social, and emotional leadership of students placed in Autism Inspired Academy. We are helping students have lives of meaning, purpose, and joy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Demonstrates Teacher Professional Expectations as defined in AIA's professional handbook.
· Determining present levels of performance
· Develops appropriate Goal Plans for students
· Collects student performance data for progress monitoring and report cards.
· Schedules and conducts meetings with parents and appropriate school and agency personnel.
· Develops lesson plans using an approved curriculum established with the administration.
· Prepare substitute plans in case of absence or emergency.
· Communicate the student's needs to the support teacher.
· Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments, and provide appropriate feedback.
· Initiate classroom meetings and communication with support teachers to ensure that they remain current regarding all policies, procedures, and information pertinent to the students, their classroom, and the school.
· Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing expectations.
· Maintain discipline following the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
· Apply appropriate corrective measures where necessary. The administration must approve any disciplinary, reward charts, and/or other behavior policies not listed in the student handbook.
· Be coachable and attend professional development trainings and staff meetings.
· Schedule parent-teacher conferences each semester or as needed.
· Keep up with developments in the subject area, teaching resources, and methods. Make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities.
