Job Title: Shift Leader
Reports to: General Manager and Assistant Cafe Leader
Classification: Full-time, hourly
Wage: L2 wage + $0.50 + tips
What's the job?
Shift Leaders are highly-skilled team members who know the ins and outs of their cafe. They act as the go-to person when the ACL and GM are not available, and ensure quality standards are being met across the team. Shift Leaders operate with curiosity and lead by example. They run shifts, can work in any position, and ensure the next day is set up for success.
Shift Leaders demonstrate a complete understanding of G&B and GGET values and standards, as outlined in the Company’s training documents. They are accountable for maintaining a positive work environment and ensuring fair and consistent treatment of all staff.
Key Responsibilities
Run effective and efficient shifts
Operate at a Level 2 expertise in every position
Open and close the cafe
De-escalate conflict with guests as needed
Operate with high technical skill and hospitality expertise
Complete basic troubleshooting on equipment
Act as a bearer of quality standards for the team
Other Job Duties
Be kind, engaging, and knowledgeable about our offerings and about coffee generally
Hold staff accountable for quality control of product, recipes, equipment operation and maintenance
Proactively pass on CS knowledge to new staff
Coach and empower team members to take ownership of each customer’s experience
Coach other team members in time management, task completion, and intentional operation
Be positive and honest
Display excellent hospitality to all customers and coworkers
Hustle, serve guests with magical speed
Display confidence and seek to constantly improve your skills in all aspects of daily coffeebar operations, including but not limited to:
Handle cash and card transactions, ensuring accurate keeping of your till
Stay up-to-date with all menu offerings
Take pride in the condition of your workspace
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Understand and implement our mission, vision and values
Apply “owner eyes” to all aspects of the shop
Demonstrate mastery of feedback and shop processes
Demonstrate a keen eye for detail and the bar skills necessary to lead coffee service
Demonstrate the ability to improve the work - and the experience - of the employees around you
Manage up, bringing not only problems but also potential solutions, to your manager
Share our absolute passion for coffee, food, and hospitality
Open and/or close the coffeebar, and posses overall schedule flexibility
Excellent time management and delegation skills
Function well in a fast-paced and, at times, stressful environment
Experiential Qualifications
Physical Requirements, with or without a reasonable accommodation
Ability to move about the cafe space frequently throughout shift
Ability to operate job related tools, such as espresso machines and coffee brewers
Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and customers
Ability to frequently move prep items in bins weighing up to 40lbs
Exposure to kitchen environment with hot surfaces
