Job Position: Safety Manager
Job Location: Stone Mountain, GA (On-site)
Reports To: Director of Engineering
Job Summary: The Shared Services Support Center (SSSC) Safety Manager is responsible for leading Safety and Environmental compliance initiatives across the organization. This position will provide leadership, planning, communication and coaching skills to ensure safe production of high quality products to meet customer needs in the most cost effective and safe manner. Ensures compliance with Company Mission Statement Safety & Quality Policy, and all customer guidelines and agreements to ensure products and services meet quality requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provides guidance and direction in Safety and Environmental compliance to the plant operations, plant leadership, and executive leadership to ensure a common and effective approach.
- Coach, train, guide, and mentor the organization to achieve a zero-incident culture
- Coordinates OSHA Reporting across the organization.
- Conduct and assist on incident investigations to ensure the investigation is properly documented, investigated to identify Contributing/Root Causes, and Corrective Actions are implemented and sustained
- Implement and conducts/reviews hazard assessments, identifying hazard/risk reduction opportunities, and implement controls
- Partner with plant leadership to implement safety initiatives and identify opportunities to improve workplace safety
- Assist in conducting (leading) safety inspections, meetings, and training programs.
- Assist in the development and presentation of relevant training including the new-hire safety orientation program.
- Complete and maintain all paperwork with regards to work-related incidents. Monitor medical treatment.
- Assists with the specification and purchase of safety equipment and systems.
- Maintain membership in applicable safety or environmental associations to stay informed of new developments and trends.
- Prepare legal notices, postings, and reports as required by government and regulatory bodies.
- Enforce compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety related regulations
- Additional duties as assigned by management.
Competencies:
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and work with all levels of team members.
- Ability to perform duties and responsibilities promptly and consistently with little direct supervision.
- Ability to execute a plan and use project management methodology.
- Ability to plan and direct activities of others and provide feedback regarding outcomes or performance.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other departments within and outside the Plant.
- Ability to judge the appropriate action in response to changes, circumstances, or problems.
- Experience in data collection, analysis and project management required.
- Strong computer skills required.
- Excellent communication, presentation and organization skills required.
- Working knowledge of data collection methodologies, interpretation/analysis and decision support databases.
Qualifications:
- College degree in Occupational Safety and Health, or related field
- Safety certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Manager (CSM)
- Minimum of 5 years' safety leadership experience in production manufacturing industry.
- Ability to work independently, managing tasks and priorities efficiently without constant supervision.
- Experience with establishing safety metrics and creating safety reports.
- In-depth understanding of OSHA, EPA and local environmental standards.
- Competent with MS Office suite and Statistical software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational, record-keeping and follow-up skills.
- Ability to develop and foster relationships and trust at all levels of the organization
Work Environment:
- Must be able to travel 50% of the time to support facilities for audits, training, etc.
- While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
