Summary/Objective: The Furniture CAD Engineer is responsible for creating 3D models and detailed technical drawings and models for furniture designs using CAD software. This role involves collaborating with design teams, engineers, and manufacturers to develop innovative and functional furniture solutions that meet aesthetic, ergonomic, and production requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and detail drawings for furniture designs, including dimensions, materials, and assembly instructions.
- Collaborate with design teams to translate conceptual sketches and ideas into technical drawings and specifications.
- Ensure that furniture designs meet industry standards, regulations, and quality requirements.
- Conduct design reviews and provide feedback to optimize designs for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and performance.
- Generate bills of materials (BOMs), parts lists, and other documentation to support manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Work closely with manufacturing engineers and suppliers to address design challenges and implement production-friendly solutions.
- Perform simulations and analyses to evaluate structural integrity, ergonomics, and functionality of furniture designs.
- Incorporate feedback from stakeholders and end-users to refine designs and enhance user experience.
- Manage CAD files and maintain version control to ensure accuracy and traceability of design revisions.
- Stay informed about emerging trends, materials, and technologies in the furniture industry to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or in depth experience in industrial design, furniture design, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor.
- Strong understanding of furniture design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with parametric modeling, surface modeling, and assembly design.
- Knowledge of ergonomic principles and human factors in furniture design.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in creating technical drawings and specifications.
- Problem-solving skills and creativity to develop innovative furniture solutions.
- Time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet project deadlines.
- Willingness to adapt to changing project requirements and learn new software tools and techniques.
- Proficiency in rendering software. Keyshot is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with CAD in an engineering role, preferably in the furniture industry.
- Portfolio showcasing examples of furniture designs and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with rendering software for creating photorealistic visualizations of furniture designs.
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices and materials in the furniture industry.
- Certification or training in specific CAD software platforms or furniture design software.
