Position Summary: This position is responsible for the efficient and effective daily operations of the pharmacy, including accurately supplying and administering prescribed medications, supervision of dosing nurse or pharmacy assistant, security and inventory accuracy of controlled substances. Maintain all pharmacy reports as required by State and Federal regulations. Must be able to discuss and or counsel patients relating to their medication regimen. Responsible for assisting the Medical Director in all areas of patient care, including physicals and necessary tests in conjuncture with State and Federal law. Assisting patients with the medical care required during their treatment as directed by Medical Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following and other duties as assigned.
- Receive CII from appropriate source and conduct inventory of controlled substances as required by P & P. Reconcile variances. Reports any and all variances as required by state and federal regulations.
- Ensure accuracy of patient’s dose by verifying against “dose level” and flags.
- Check ID or confirm digital photograph in Methasoft software matches patient.
- Enforce “Lock-Box” policy.
- Accurately supplies and administers medications to patients in levels prescribed by Medical Director.
- Maintains high level of physical security in pharmacy at all times (door locked, safe closed and locked, alarmed when closed). Maintains security of methadone at dosing window.
- Actively involved in Diversion Control through patient observation, monitoring the return of medication bottles, and conducting inspections associated with random bottle recalls.
- Documents patient prescriptions in Methasoft software; assists in coordination of care with other medical practices as needed.
- Assists in evaluating potential patient safety issues in regards to dosing through gathering of information on patients who present with signs and symptoms of acute intoxication. Reports information to the Medical Director when a patient is believed to be inappropriate for dosing for further review and action.
- Process or review Medical Director’s orders, changes, and flags for each patient and enter patient data.
- Ensure compliance with all State and Federal Regulations and insures permits are up-to-date and posted.
- Maintains proper inventory and supplies for pharmacy and laboratory operations to adequately and professionally
meet patient’s needs.
- As necessary, completes physical examinations, including blood work, procures lab specimens and records the results
of the tests, presents medical forms for the clinic physician’s evaluation, consultation, and signature.
- Coordinates Annual Medical Review on all active patients, submits to counselor for filing in patient chart.
- Attends staff meetings for the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment improvement of patients.
- Continuous quality improvement (conduct in-service & patient education).
- Completes daily reports, including manual dosing sheets, reconciled with computerized closing summaries and other computerized summaries.
- Keep filing system up to date.
- Keep pharmacy dispensing equipment clean and functioning including calibrating pumps on a daily/weekly basis.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of pharmacy and laboratory. Ensure proper storage of all medical waste. Ensure medical waste procedures, including disposal of sharps, are in use.
- Ensure smooth workflow and patient satisfaction.
- Other duties as assigned by Program Director.
Minimum Qualifications: Requires a licensed nurse (LPN) in the state of North Carolina and graduated from an accredited school of nursing. Experience in the field of addictions is preferred but not necessary. Must demonstrate proficiency with Methasoft software program during the course of employment. Must have a valid driver’s license or state issued ID and provide State License.
Physical
- Frequent standing at counter or computer for dispensing and administering medications, filing, completing paperwork.
- Occasional lifting/carrying, paperwork, files, office supplies or medications up to 20 lbs.
- Occasional push/pull exerting up to 5-20 lbs. force, opening doors, file drawers, safe doors, pushing files in drawers.
- Occasional kneeling/crouching to reach lower file drawers, file stretching to store or retrieve materials.
Mental
Position requires constant mental alertness, attention to detail, and high degree of accuracy required in completing all assignments. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and follow-through on all assignments.
