The Domestic Violence Advocate is responsible for the interactions and activities performed over the telephone or in person with clients in crisis to stabilize emotions, clarify issues and to provide support and assistance to help explore options for resolution of the individual self-defined crisis and needs.
6am-2pm Tue - Thur & 2pm-10pm Fri - Sat
Responsibilities:
- Provide victims/survivors with crisis intervention, ongoing crisis advocacy and domestic and sexual violence education, including empowerment/self advocacy education;
- Help victims develop personal safety plans;
- Provide victims/survivors necessary information about resources, rights and referrals;
- Facilitate support groups for victims/survivors;
- Respond to hotline crisis calls;
- Develop and maintain collaborative relations with other community agencies and organizations;
- Participate and represent the organization in community meeting and committees;
- Ability to provide trauma-informed care to trauma survivors;
- Ability to convey care, compassion, and empathy to trauma survivors, while maintaining professional boundaries;
- Ability to behave in a trustworthy and reliable manner.

Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- related field preferred or Bachelor's Degree (not required);
- An understanding of crisis intervention, problem solving, and advocacy;
- Prior experience working in human services;
- Working Conditions: stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time. You may be required to talk or hear, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch;
- You may be required to lift or move over 25 lbs;
- Non-judgmental demeanor towards victims of domestic and sexual violence and their children;
- Drive to various locations to include schools, shelter, court and community partners.
