POSITION SUMMARY
The Lab Assistant provides support to the physicians, staff and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care to ensure the proper treatment for the patient. The Lab Assistant performs venipunctures, administers vaccines and medications to patient and documents the information in the EHR. The Lab Assistant also runs CLIA waived tests in office, such as: HGB A1C, HIV, Urinalysis, Rapid Strep, Flu test, etc. The Lab Assistant helps the Lab Team Leader with maintaining quality controls on machines and keeping daily logs of these values and patient results.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
● Interview patients and document basic medical information
● Schedule appointments and arrange follow up patient care
● Handle incoming lab reports and notify the providers of any abnormal results
● Process outgoing lab samples
● Reconcile lab orders
● Stock supplies and help maintain what is needed to order for supplies
● Upload documents via electronic fax or through lab portals to patient charts in EHR
● Triage phone calls
● Follow up with patients regarding results
● Ability to obtain blood samples via venipuncture or capillary sticks
● Maintain knowledge to operate lab equipment (i.e., centrifuge, lab machines, etc.)
● Administer vaccines and/or medications
● Process IUI specimens
● Perform CLIA Waived tests such as: HGB A1C, Rapid Strep, Influenza, HGB, Glucose, Urinalysis, HIV
● Complete morbidity report for Health Dept
● Complete any additional paperwork needed for labs by insurance company
● Complete paperwork and test kits for research studies
● Complete paperwork and test kits for Hereditary Testing and Prenatal Testing
● Record test results in electronic record and paper record
● Assist in training of team members, as needed.
● Maintain daily logs
● Maintain quality controls on machines and tests used in office

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: High School or GED equivalent
Experience: At least 1 year of lab experience, preferred
Computer Skills: Ability to efficiently operate computers. Comfortable with Microsoft Office.
EMR knowledge- Required
Certifications & Licenses: RMA, CMA, or CCMA
CPR Certification
Other Requirements: Ability to pass required background check and ongoing continuing education each year
