International SOS is seeking qualified Dental Therapy Assistants to join our team. Dental Therapy Assistants will perform duties similar to those required of government civil service Expanded Function Dental Assistants (EFDA) with comparable experience and in similar duty assignments. Additional responsibilities may include chairside dental assisting, radiology, or sterilization. While occasional tasks such as patient scheduling or records review may be required, Dental Therapy Assistants will not routinely serve as medical clerks or receptionists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform Expanded Function Dental Assistant duties in one or more phases of complex restorative, prosthodontic, oral surgical, endodontic, or periodontal treatment under the direction of a dentist.
- Restore teeth prepared by dentists with permanent or temporary fillings.
- Apply rubber dam, including cleansing and drying the operative field, and irrigate the tooth.
- Close the tooth with a temporary filling and take preliminary impressions for study models.
- Assist in surgical treatments, retracting gingiva from the tooth for final impressions.
- Instruct patients in preventive dental care measures and apply prescribed agents.
- Perform oral prophylaxis, therapeutic care, supra-gingival stain, and calculus removal, and scaling of teeth.
- Operate dental x-ray equipment to take intra and extraoral radiographs.
- Maintain various recurring reports related to dental activities.
- Aid in the training of trainee dental assistants and/or dental assistant students, observing and advising them as they perform duties.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from a formal dental assistant program.
- Previous experience as an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) with duties similar to those described.
- Proficiency in performing complex restorative, prosthodontic, oral surgical, endodontic, and periodontal treatments.
- Ability to apply rubber dam, take impressions, and operate dental x-ray equipment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities.
- CPR certification and X-ray certification may be required, depending on jurisdictional regulations.
