POSITION OVERVIEW
The Advisor at Shepherds College will work with a caseload of 14-16 students to support them with their growth and development throughout the course of their time in the program. The Advisor will focus on supporting students in areas such as social behavior, budgeting, professionalism, and conflict resolution.
This is a full-time position with 1st-shift hours. The position includes an on-call rotation with other Advisors to support with unexpected but infrequent situations in the evenings and on weekends.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILTIES
- Provide academic advisement, personal and professional guidance, and career counseling for an assigned group of students through regular individual meetings and personal connections
- Act as the primary liaison and point of first contact between parents of advisees and Shepherds College
- Collaborate with other internal departments and community partners to ensure that each student's needs are met
- Manage behavioral issues among students and help implement behavior plans, as needed, communicating regularly with Academic and Student Life staff regarding behavioral concerns
- Complete required documentation, assessments, and communication
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree is required; a degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Special Education is a plus
- Must have experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities
