Lower School Instructional Assistant

Seabury is seeking an instructional assistant for our lower school program.
Qualified candidates are those with experience working with school-aged children and with a desire to participate in making the classroom an active, supportive, engaging learning environment. The instructional assistant will work as part of a team with classroom teachers to support instruction, supervise children, and assist with making sure the lower school program is a safe, fun, and supportive environment for students. High energy and a desire to be part of a hands-on, advanced learning program for highly capable children is required.
Seabury’s lower school is located in Brown’s Point in Tacoma, WA. Applicants must be able to accompany students on field trips.

The Lower School Instructional Assistant:
· Assists in the classrooms to support the lead teachers with classroom management and educational work;
· Supervises and engages students during classroom activities, teacher breaks, recess, lunch, or on local experiences;
Qualifications
The Lower School Instructional Assistant will demonstrate key elements of the listed expertise and experiences. The Lower School Instructional Assistant:
- Holds a high school diploma (bachelor’s degree is preferred);
- Relevant experience working in schools with school aged children;
- Works with the school to hold and maintain certification in first aid, CPR, bloodborne pathogens, and food handling;
- Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues;
- Is open to feedback and support to grow professionally;
- Practices cultural humility in personal interactions;
- And, is eligible to work in the United States. Note: Under our current employment policies, we are unable to sponsor work visas and do not offer positions to candidates who are not yet eligible to work in the United States.
- Must be able to pass a background check
· Those who do not currently have all required certifications will be required to complete them within the first week of employment.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time;
- Must be able to move comfortably around a classroom and an urban environment, accessing materials and assisting students as needed;
- Must be able to navigate the stairs on campus;
- Must be able to communicate and exchange information with middle school children, other teachers and families.

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
