Inner City Law Center (ICLC) is a nonprofit law firm located in the Skid Row neighborhood of Los Angeles. We are looking for extraordinary people to help us end homelessness in Los Angeles. Founded on the fundamental principle that every person should always be treated with dignity and respect, ICLC fights for justice for low-income tenants, working-poor families, people who are disabled or experiencing homelessness, people living with HIV/AIDS, and homeless veterans.
Position Description: The Intake Staff Attorney is part of the Tenant Defense Project’s Intake and Tenant Power Toolkit team and primarily responsible for the day-to-day oversight of our case referral and intake systems. They ensure that incoming referrals to the Tenant Defense Project are properly handled, provide counsel and advice and limited brief services to tenants as needed, and help develop and implement improved workflows.
Act as first point of contact for intake staff processing referrals, including to apply intake and eligibility criteria, address unique or complex situations, assess case information as needed, assist with assignment, and answer questions as they arise in the intake process.
Oversee the day-to-day functioning of efficient and client-centered organizational processes, procedures, and technology systems used to screen potential clients and to assign cases to attorney and paralegal teams for representation.
Provide counsel and advice and brief services to tenants. Brief services may include simple moveout agreements, pre-litigation advocacy and communications with landlords, and providing in-depth counsel and advice.
Work closely with Intake Supervising Attorney to assess and improve intake systems, including to improve the client experience, minimize delays, manage referral volume, and set priorities.
Guide and train other program staff, including fellows, paralegals, less experienced attorneys, law clerks, external entities and pro bono partners.
Actively participate in community groups and coalitions on issues impacting ICLC clients and client communities, such as access to the courts, the availability of affordable housing, and systemic racism.

Access to reliable transportation. Membership in the California Bar is required. A minimum of 1-2 years of litigation experience.
This position will serve a nine-month probationary period. ICLC has a hybrid work environment with remote and onsite work available.

Compensation: Salary ranges from $78,000 - $105,000 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits.
