Position: Senior Director of Unified Champion Schools
Reports to: President & CEO
FLSA Status: Full Time Exempt
DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Director of Unified Champion Schools will advance the Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools movement in the areas of Unified Sports, Whole School Engagement, and Youth Leadership as driven by Special Olympics North America. This position has the overall responsibility for coordinating the engagement of students, teachers, staff, and other education stakeholders that will help in building an inclusive environment in schools.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:
o Oversight of Director of Unified Champion Schools (UCS) staff position and the successful completion of all assigned responsibilities working toward the goals of the program.
o Primary contact for all higher-level presentations, meetings, and collaborations with the Delaware Department of Education, Education-related agencies, all individual districts and schools, and any outside businesses or organizations if affiliated with the UCS program. This includes the development of agendas and presentations geared toward the specific audience based on projected outcomes with timely follow-up and collaboration as needed.
o Oversee statewide Unified Champion School recruitment, involvement, and retainment efforts as the primary point of contact for schools and districts.
o Function as the ongoing Special Olympics liaison, or oversee staff member to do so, to the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) as a member of the Unified Sports Committee to continuously improve and enhance the partnership.
o Plan and manage building, district-based and county-wide school sports competitions including but not limited to Bocce, Soccer, Unified Sports Expos, and Young Athletes.
o Plan and manage all elements of the Spread the Word campaign.
o Coordinate UCS members involvement in SODE fundraising efforts including but not limited to Reindeer Run, Cool Schools at the Plunge, Champions Together, and Over the Edge.
o Oversee the development, management, reporting and reconciliation for the UCS grant, and any additional grants that might be obtained.
o Oversight of the development, planning, and management of all future program initiatives in schools.
o Support other SODE events including major sports competitions and fundraisers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Bachelor’s degree in education or education-related field.
o Experience as a teacher or administrator as well as leading, engaging and working in conjunction with public school educators and school administrators at all levels, preferably in Delaware.
o Experience developing and managing school and community partnerships.
o Project management experience and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
o Proven ability to work and collaborate in diverse school and other environments and with assorted levels of audiences, while appreciating and understanding different opinions with a willingness to work toward an agreement that meets the needs of both parties without jeopardizing the quality or integrity of the goal.
o Desire and commitment to work with individuals with intellectual disabilities and to opening the minds of all people to the gifts and talents of our athletes.
o Excellent presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
o Proficiency in Word, Power Point, Outlook, and Excel.
o Willingness to travel statewide and work a non-traditional 40+ hour work week.
o Willingness to work as a team player to enhance the overall Special Olympics Delaware program.
o Able to occasionally lift and move 25-50 pounds.
o Must be able to pass a background check.

o Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
