Schedule: Full Time, 35 hours/week, approximately 3 days working onsite
Reporting to the Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO), the Program Manager, Philanthropy has a critical role in helping advance the museum’s robust and innovative department yielding more than $30 million annually in contributed and earned revenue.
The Program Manager, Philanthropy is a seasoned professional with expertise in nonprofit fundraising team operations, project management, and fundraising with individuals. They partner with the CPO to manage the trustee giving portfolio, spearhead Philanthropy department operations, communication, and administration, and helps lead a Philanthropy program that attracts, engages, inspires, and yields meaningful long-term relationships with museum supporters and reaches its fiscal goals.
The Program Manager, Philanthropy supervises the Philanthropy Associate, Research and Administration.

Trustee Giving
-
Partners with CPO to manage the Trustee giving portfolio

Creates proposal for annual solicitation initiative with support of Philanthropy Associate.

Tracks individual status of 300+ types of gifts from approximately 60 trustees. Ensures correct gift processing for Trustee gifts and timely acknowledgment.

Closely tracks progress-to-goal for Trustee Unrestricted and Trustee Restricted budget revenue lines within the broader Department fiscal year goals.

Confirms and notes donor recognition preferences in Tessitura.

When assigned, reaches out directly to Trustees to follow-up on gift solicitation status and close gifts.

Supports additional Board of Trustee giving campaigns as assigned.
Leadership-
Represents the CPO in meetings and otherwise.

Organizes and prioritizes data and information for CPO to facilitate their decision-making.

Partners with Customer Relationship Management Enterprise Services division (CRMES)to sustain and improve standard operating procedures.

Oversees the Tessitura Working Group: an internal cohort of super users.

Oversees the quarterly pledge invoicing project administered by CRMES.

Ensures moves management for Trustees and other programs are well-documented in Tessitura.

Manages Philanthropy department alignment with SFMOMA’s organizational commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and the DEI strategic plan.

Assembles key data points, builds presentations, performs financial analysis, and is a subject expert in key department functions.

Supports Philanthropy staff engagement and professional development. Liaises with the Philanthropy Culture Committee (PCC).
Operations-
Partners with CPO and Development Committee leadership to conceive meeting agendas and organizes Philanthropy stakeholders with deck creation and talking points. Oversees the calendaring and logistics for meetings.

Tracks, with guidance from and in collaboration with the CPO, Philanthropy $30M+ operating budget, building strong alliances with program budget managers and the Finance department. Assists with revenue planning, tracking, reporting, and short-and-long-term forecasting exercises.

Owns the museum’s Gift Acceptance Policy, working with the museum’s CFO, General Counsel, and board Development and Governance Committees to regularly update and evolve.

Is the primary contact for donors making gifts of securities and provides general support to the department on wire and stock transfer instructions.

Responsible for overseeing regular staff-generated correspondence between museum Director and donors.

Oversees department’s donor research function. With Philanthropy Associate, Research and Administration, ensures museum has correct tools and processes to yield productive research to grow revenue.

Minimum of five (5) years experience working in a Philanthropy program, preferably in the arts or museums sectors.

Minimum of three (3) years experience working directly with individual donors, organization executives, and its Board of Trustees.

History of demonstrated successes leading initiatives resulting in increased revenue.

Comprehensive program management expertise, including short and long-term planning and evaluation, philanthropy ethics, and development and maintenance of systems and processes.

Strong staff management and people leadership and relationship building skills, influencing, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, including the ability to work effectively across all levels of management and staff.

Expertise on identifying, recruiting, hiring, onboarding and managing a thriving staff team.

Strong financial acumen, having owned or supported a $2M+ operating budget (revenue and expense), have collaborated with CFO or Finance department leadership, well-versed in all giving mechanisms.

Exceptionally skilled writer with demonstrated history of short-and long-form writing in a fundraising context.

Willingness to work flexible hours.
- Work schedule includes evenings and Bay Area travel, as well as minimal weekends.
