The Production Line Coordinator reports to the Production Supervisor and Production Manager. The team member must possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and must be able to communicate in English and Spanish. The Production Line Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating a team of employees to ensure compliance with the highest standards of employee safety, food safety, and product quality throughout the plant. In addition, the Production Line Coordinator is responsible for ensuring all Production employees receive on-going training in employee safety, food safety, and product quality. This team member works with the Production Management team to ensure that all employees assigned to the line and all activities of the line comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Safe Quality Food (SQF), and Food Defense regulations on a continual basis. The Production Line Coordinator shall be engaged in continuous improvement to drive increases in line efficiency and units per man hour while decreasing waste in plant operations.
Line Coordinators Responsibilities:
Ensure the safety, productivity, and qualifications of all employees assigned to Line Coordinator’s shift and line
Assign duties to line workers on Line Coordinator’s shift and line
Coach, counsel, and train line workers in daily operations
Train new employees and mentor existing employees
Oversee and coordinate all operation activities within the assigned production line to ensure compliance with food safety standards, SSOPs, GMPs, SQF, and Food Defense regulations. This includes training line employees in each of these key areas to enforce a culture of food safety
Ensure operator safety by adhering to LA Plant safety rules
Ensure facility safety during designated shift hours
Enforce all safety and processing procedures
Oversee and coordinate all operations activities among line workers
Oversee and coordinate activities through change over to ensure product quality
Report any conditions that require adjustments to the process or machinery to the Supervisor
Regularly inspect all equipment and coordinate with the Maintenance and Production Supervisors for necessary repairs
Perform other production-related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates
Enable effective communication between production management team and operators
Investigate and immediately report all incidents (spills, accidents, poor performance, machine stoppages) to the Production Supervisor
Suggest and implement cost reduction ideas
Have in-depth knowledge of the operation of all available machine equipment and processes
Motivate other employees to meet the demands set forth in the schedule
Be responsible for a group of operators and effective utilization of personnel to fulfil shipments
Provide on-the-job training for operators to ensure they follow work instructions and understand defects and faults
Ensure operators meet/execute daily goals and output
Review check sheets for blanks or errors during designated shift hours, give appropriate directions to operators, if necessary, hold them accountable for accurate check sheets
Take check sheets for assigned lines out of the office and distribute them, collect check sheets immediately from machines that have finished production and submit them to the office
Assist in ensuring safety, productivity, and quality on lines and shifts other than assigned shift
Handover daily with line coordinators from before and after shifts to communicate and understand line and employee situations
Be responsible for making sure operators go to break/lunch on time.
Be responsible for rotating and covering positions
Be responsible for fairness between all employees
Have the flexibility to change shifts according to the situation
Job Requirements:
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English, fluency in Spanish preferred
- Excellent organizational and time management skills plus attention to detail
- Minimum of 1-5 years of experience in the food industry
- Demonstrable understanding of processing
- Demonstrable understanding of SQF, GMPs, and SOPs
- Ability to lead by example – promote safety, quality, food safety culture.
Physical Requirements:
- Bend to grasp objects and ability to climb ladders sometimes.
- Bend and lift loads no more than 50 pounds unassisted.
- Work in very hot temperatures (>90 degrees F) seasonally
- Must be able to work a variety of shifts including weekends, evenings, and holidays
- Ability to work in a noisy environment
