Position Summary
This is an onsite IT position in Winston-Salem, NC with weekly visits to client office locations. VERSA Technologies is looking for a capable and motivated IT professional to work daily with our client base in all aspects of the consulting, configuration, maintenance, and support of their IT systems environments. The IT Systems Engineer works in a consulting role with each client for planning, expansion, technology updates and implementing industry standard best practices, while supporting all aspects of the client’s IT environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, and good interpersonal skills. The IT Systems Engineer provides both on-site and remote professional services and consulting support for clients as needed. Essential Duties and Primary Responsibilities
The IT Systems Engineer provides onsite and remote consulting and service support to the technology environments of multiple clients. Candidates should possess strong problem-solving, analytical and communication skills, in addition to in-depth technical knowledge of business IT systems hardware and software. At least five (5) years of experience working with Enterprise or SMB hardware and software systems is preferred. Preferred certifications include Microsoft 365 Administrator or Windows Server Hybrid Administrator; Cisco CCNA or CCNP; CompTIA A+, Network+, or Server+.
- Configure, install, and maintain server systems and end-user computing hardware such as desktops, laptops, peripherals, and mobile devices
- Configure, install, and maintain virtual server environments
- Configure, install, and maintain network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, and wireless access points
- Administer Microsoft Active Directory environments
- Administer Microsoft Exchange and Office 365 environments
- Install and configure client and server operating systems
- Install and configure application software, including upgrades, updates, and patches
- Administer antivirus software, databases, NAS systems, data backups, and line-of-business applications
- Provide technical support and problem resolution for IT systems and environments
- Perform root-cause analysis for service interruptions and implement preventive measures
- Provide total systems analysis and creative problem solving
- Consult with clients on technical advice, problem solving, process enhancement, and forecast planning
- Design comprehensive and interoperating systems to support client business needs using industry best practices and appropriate technologies
- Collaborate with IT team members, clients, and vendors to resolve technical issues
- Maintain accurate documentation of systems, configurations, processes, and service records
- May require occasional evening or weekend work to perform maintenance, upgrades, or emergency repairs
- This position will be part of an on-call rotation for after-hours support
Qualifications and Experience
- Associate or higher degree in a related field
- Preferred 5 or more years of IT Systems design, support, and maintenance experience.
- Valid NC Driver’s License required
- Preferred certifications include Microsoft 365 Administrator or Windows Server Hybrid Administrator; Cisco CCNA or CCNP; CompTIA A+, Network+, or Server+, or similar
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven track record of resolving complex technical problems and the ability to consult with clients for future needs

- Network administration experience
- Network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, IPSEC) and network technologies (e.g., LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, and VLANs)
- Network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools (e.g., Auvik, Nagios, SolarWinds)
- Configure and manage firewalls, VPNs, and other network infrastructure
o Network equipment and services, including firewalls, routers, switches, WAPs, VPNs, VLANs and other network infrastructure
- Vendors such as Aruba, Meraki, SonicWall, and Ubiquiti
- Microsoft administration experience
- Windows Server 2016/2019/2022
- Windows 10/11
- Office 365 and 2016/2019/2021 applications
- Exchange 2016/2019
- Azure/Office 365/Microsoft 365 services
- Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
- Hardware administration experience
o Desktops, laptops, and mobile devices
o Printers, scanners, and other peripherals
- Servers and RAID arrays
- NAS systems
- Vendors such as Buffalo, Dell, HP, HPE, Lenovo, QNAP, Synology
- Knowledge of hypervisor operation and experience with configuring, installing, and maintaining virtualization technologies such as Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware vSphere
- Backup solutions such as Barracuda, Veeam, and Veritas
- Antivirus and antispam applications such as Barracuda, SentinelOne, and Trend Micro
- Remote management and monitoring (RMM) software such as ConnectWise or Kaseya
- Cloud data storage solutions
