The Contractor Sales Representative position earns a competitive wage (base hourly rate plus commission) with the opportunity to significantly increase total compensation as customer relationships are established. As a Contractor Sales Representative you will be responsible for providing superior customer service, maintaining an expert level of product knowledge, managing assigned accounts, and growing the customer base.
Key responsibilities include the following:
- Advise contractors and sell lumber and building supply materials to meet their needs.
- Assist walk-in customers.
- Read and interpret blueprints and create material estimates.
- Source, quote, and order special order materials to meet customer needs.
- Conduct worksite visits to evaluate material needs, maintain timely supply, measure for special order materials, and solve potential problems.
- Schedule material returns and job site material pick-up as needed.
- Assist with assigned customer accounts to maintain acceptable accounts receivable status.
- Update and maintain accurate account information, customer details, and contact information.
- Review accounts periodically to determine revenue and profitability.
- Maintain and grow existing customer base through sales development, competitive customer quotes, and quality servicing, to ensure sales goals are met or exceeded.
- Maintain product knowledge for all stock and nonstock materials sold by Friel.
- Maintain proficient knowledge of latest quoting software.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Prior experience with building materials supply or construction highly preferred.
- Proven customer service background in a fast-paced environment.
- Prior sales experience a plus.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ability to learn and utilize company software. Experience with Point of Sale (POS) software a plus.
- Strong relationship building skills with a passion for customer service. Ability to interact with customers in a professional and responsive manner.
- Highly self-motivated and detail oriented.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Availability to work Monday through Friday and a half day every other Saturday.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
