We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist/CMA with at least 3 years of experience to join our fast-paced gastroenterology private practice, where we primarily utilize paper charts. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.
Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care:
- Greet patients warmly and escort them to examination rooms, ensuring a comfortable and welcoming environment.
- Obtain vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints from patients accurately and document them in paper charts.
- Assist physicians during patient examinations, procedures, and treatments, providing support as needed.
2. Chart Management:
- Retrieve and prepare paper charts for patient appointments, ensuring all necessary documents and forms are available.
- Update charts with new information, including test results, consultation notes, and medication changes, using standardized abbreviations and terminology.
- Create patient procedure packets and consult with the provider regarding additional data required.
- File and organize paper charts according to established protocols.
3. Administrative Duties:
- Responsible for interoffice correspondence - sending reports to patients and other provider offices.
- Occasionally answering phone calls, taking messages, and routing inquiries to appropriate staff members in a timely and professional manner.
- Responsible for incoming and outgoing medical records requests.
4. Clinical Support:
- Prepare examination rooms and procedure areas for patient visits, ensuring cleanliness and availability of necessary supplies and equipment.
- Perform basic laboratory tests, such as blood draws and specimen collection, and prepare samples for processing according to laboratory protocols.
- Assist with laboratory billing and coding tasks and reconciliation, and collaborate with administrative staff as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (REQUIRED)
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) is REQUIRED. Must present certification of completion upon interview.
- At least 3 years of previous experience working as a medical assistant in a healthcare setting, with proficiency in paper charting methods.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate and patient-centered approach.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to type 45 WPM
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA regulations.
Working Conditions:
- This position operates in a clinical office setting within an internal medicine and gastroenterology private practice that utilizes paper charts for medical documentation.
- Exposure to bodily fluids, medical chemicals, and infectious diseases may occur; adherence to safety protocols is essential.
