School for Friends is a small community based school that has been serving the District of Columbia- Maryland and Virginia families for over 40 years. Since 1981, we have been providing a high-quality, caring, and supportive educational environment for children and families, implementing research-based best practices. We are committed to creating a diverse school community focusing on the Quaker values of cooperation, equality, and nonviolence. We encourage all aspects of a child's development - social, emotional, physical, and cognitive - in a setting that is safe, welcoming, and engaging. SFF has a team of consultants for curriculum, professional development, and children with different needs. We are open from 8:15 AM to 5:45 PM, Monday through Friday, year-round.
We are a member of the Friends Council on Education. We are licensed by the District of Columbia and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). We have received numerous awards and recognition in our over 40-year history.
Required Qualifications: BA in Finance or Business or comparable experience
Overall Position: Responsible for supporting School for Friends in creating and implementing systems to complete tasks necessary for daily operations of the school, including: onboarding new families, onboarding new staff, communications.
POLICY & PHILOSOPHY
- Works toward daily implementation of the School for Friends mission and vision, supporting the school in working toward meeting the goals outlined in the strategic plan.
- Follows and supports all SFF policies at all times, as explained in the Staff and Parent Manuals.
- Follows and supports the SFF Code of Conduct at all times. Reports violations, questions, or concerns about the Code of Conduct to the Head of School.
- Is familiar with and follows the policies, regulations and recommendations outlined by licensing and accrediting agencies (including DCMR 29 and NAEYC’s Developmentally Appropriate Practice), along with the SFF staff and parent manuals and the Creative Curriculum. Copies of these are available in each classroom and the office.
- Shares information about SFF policies with staff and parents as needed, explaining rationale as necessary. Brings questions or concerns about policies to the attention of the Head of School.
Systems Development
- Develops and implements school-wide non-instructional systems and procedures that ensure operational excellence within the school. Systems include but are not limited to: Safety, snack ordering, and compliance tracking.
Compliance
- Maintains compliance (enrollment, staffing, etc) in accordance with OSSE and NAEYC requirements.
- Ensures that all fire, life, and safety regulations and procedures are implemented ensuring the well-being of all school staff and students.
- Supports the Head of School with enrollment, re-enrollment, and admissions.
- Ensures that all required records, including immunizations, health certificates, and dental records, are up to date and properly filed, uploaded on the appropriated platforms.
School Operations
- Updates and maintains accurate student records and student data in the student information system (TADS).
- Oversees the snack ordering process.
- Oversees all janitorial staff to ensure that the facility is well-maintained.
- Manages the school's inventory process.
- Supports Head of School with facility-related initiatives as needed.
- Provides logistical support as needed for open houses and all school events.
Business
- Submits invoices to the accountant for payment.
- Makes check deposits to the bank.
- Reconciles credit card statements.
- Runs monthly tuition payments with the accountant.
Information Technology
- Liaisons with vendors for IT support.
Human Resources
- Serves as human resource administrator as it relates to employee information and benefits.
- Maintains all employee files; updates required HR paperwork and data systems.
- Assists with timesheet administration.
- Partners with the leadership team to understand and execute the school’s human resource and talent strategy particularly as it relates to recruiting, retention, job posting, and performance management.
- Manages the talent acquisition process which may include recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding/offboarding.
- Provides support and guidance to the leadership team regarding sensitive questions and issues.
- In consultation with the Head of School, participates in conducting orientation for new staff.
- Oversees benefits administration and open enrollment.
- Develops HR-related policies and procedures.
- Ensures CPR, background check, drug testing, and required trainings are completed.
PROFESSIONALISM
- Models professionalism at all times, including, but not limited to: professional appearance, good attendance, adherence to policy, positive attitude, professional communications, thorough completion of assigned tasks, duties, and responsibilities.
- In consultation with the Head of School, assists with establishing and maintaining systems of effective communication across the School.
- Establishes and maintains positive communications with relevant stakeholders, including teachers, families, licensing offices, and other community organizations.
- Reflects critically and collaborates with colleagues to continuously improve systems and and achieve overall goals and mission of the School and the network.
- Fulfills all outlined and related functions professionally and thoroughly.
