Position Summary:
Reporting to the Outreach and Communications Coordinator, the outreach counselor is responsible for conducting on and off-campus outreach events, including but not limited to high school and community college financial aid presentations and on-campus presentations for current students. In addition, the outreach counselor supports the outreach and communications coordinator in managing annual communications for the Financial Aid and Scholarship through email, web, and social media channels. Provide customer service to students and families regarding financial aid awards via phone, message center, and in person, and made changes and updates to financial aid as needed.

- 1-2 years In related area and/or equivalent experience/training (Required)
- Excellent verbal presentation skills. Incumbent must be comfortable conducting presentations for audiences of 500-1000 people. Must be able to communicate complex financial aid topics to large audiences in a clear, concise and engaging manner. (Required)

Excellent interpersonal skills, incumbent must be comfortable working with multiple departments across campus and cultivating relationships with colleagues from all the departments the Financial Aid and Scholarships Outreach Team has to work with to provide financial aid information to students. (Required)

Comfortable using email, web resources and social media to create content for and engage with a student audience to disseminate financial aid information. Be able to think creatively about ways to provide financial aid information to students and parents. (Required)

Knowledge of federal state and university regulations and policies pertaining to financial aid. Required to review, evaluate and apply financial aid concepts to student files accurately. (Required)

Required to understand and exercise “professional Judgement” when reviewing student files. Required to effectively counsel and advise students and families about the financial aid application and delivery process, time and money management skills, and other financial aid issues. (Required)

Required to effectively use a personal computer for all desktop applications, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Required to learn new systems and programs, including propriety UCLA systems. (Required)

Required to utilize financial aid processing resources, including The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), FAA Access to CPS Online, Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) and ELM. (Required)

Required to resolve student inquiries and problems by compiling and analyzing research data compiled from multiple sources; FAM, CPS online, lender and/or servicers databases etc. (Required)

Ability to communicate UCLA’s processing requirements and to work in tandem with lenders and/or servicers to resolve loan issues on behalf of the borrower. (Required)

Experience with Dot Net Nuke Website Content Management program or similar content management system. Experience using social media to engage and communicate with a student audience. (Preferred)

Knowledge of the Financial Aid Management System (FAM), Student Records System (SRS), Report Distribution System (SRS), and the Billing and Receivable System (BAR) used for accessing student data. Fluency in Spanish (Preferred)
