BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
This is a long-term substitute position (for 3 months) for the current teacher who is going on maternity leave. There may be the opportunity to extend the position beyond this leave if the fit is a match.
This position will begin immediately. The Lead Preschool Teacher will work in a mixed age preschool and schoolage classroom (3 - 7 years). Lead Teachers will be responsible for the social, emotional, physical, and academic health of the children in their care. Your classroom may be up to 16 students at one time. You will have an assistant with you. You will be responsible for implementing lessons and assisting the director in assessing and documenting growth. Since this is a maternity leave position, lesson plans will be completed for you ahead of time, unless you choose to take on this task with additional compensation. You may alter the planned content to fit the needs of the children in your care.
To qualify, you must have at a minimum, six (6) credit hours of Early Childhood Education(ECE) or 9 CEUS of ECE, or 90 clock hours through MIRegistry. Associate's degree or higher preferred. Background checks, TB tests, CPR, First Aid, BBP & Health and Safety Trainings, as well as professional development (all provided or paid for by the employer) are mandated by the state of Michigan.
Additionally, as this job is part of a greater ministry of Saints Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, teachers are expected to demonstrate Christ’s love through their actions. All conduct while in the classroom should be loving and caring.
PREFERRED (NOT REQUIRED) PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate's Degree or Higher
- One year or more of child development training or experience.
- Experience with Special Education inclusion practices.

STAFF COOPERATION DUTIES
- Support other staff by being a positive role model, treating others with respect and care.
- Meet with other staff, when asked, for planning and problem solving.
CHILD MANAGEMENT DUTIES
- Implement the classroom schedule.
- Prepare educational play activities and learning opportunities.
- Guide students to educational play activities.
- Enforce center rules.
- Supervise and participate in meals with the children.
- Assist children in prepping for outdoor activities.
- Directly supervise the children’s playtime.
- Supervise bathroom/toilet use and help as needed.
- Administer first aid when necessary; assist in reporting all accidents/incidents on forms.
- Assist in executing fire, tornado, lockdown, and other emergency drills.
