School Nutrition Plus is a school catering and food service consulting business located in Los Angeles, CA. We are an innovative company that assists schools with all aspects of the Child Nutrition Program, from planning menus and catering meals, to directing cafeteria operations at school districts. We run health-focused programming as a signature service.
Job Summary/Objective: The Kitchen Supervisor may be responsible for not only the food production aspect of the kitchen, but managing staff, assisting with budgets, purchasing and implementing new menus, executing special events at schools and operational ideas to keep the business efficient and profitable. Along with the Kitchen Manager, the Supervisor is responsible for working with the transportation department to manage the day-to-day food transportation and delivery schedules and may occasionally drive a company vehicle. This position assists the Cooks in preparing, producing, heating, cooking, and serving a variety of foods from fresh, canned, dry, or frozen states according to recipes and assists in other related tasks in a designated food service production and/or service area. Supervises Food Service Workers, Driver-Kitchen Workers, Food Servers.
Job Duties:
- Estimate food preparation amounts and adjust recipes, if required, for the purposes of meeting projected meal quantities and minimizing waste.
- Inspects food items and/or supplies for the purpose of verifying quantity and specifications of orders and/or complying with mandated health requirements.
- Monitors equipment operations and functions for the purpose of maintaining equipment in safe working order.

- Uses standardized recipes to maintain quality control.
- Prepares, and assists in overseeing the production of, a variety of foods including soups, entrees, meats, vegetables, desserts, breads, salads, sandwiches, beverages, or other foods and beverages as specified by the menus, recipes, and production records.
- Works with the VP Operations, Executive Chef, and Chef Manager to run a successful National School Meal Program.
- Executes special events such as BBQs and taco bars at school sites.
- Participates in staff meetings, in-service training, workshops, seminars, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
- Assist in the hiring, transfer, promotion, evaluation, reprimand, demotion, or dismissal processes.

Supervisory Responsibility: Head Cooks, Cooks, Food Service Workers, Food Servers, and Drivers-Kitchen Workers.
Work Environment: This job operates in commercial kitchen and on school campuses both indoor and outdoor. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and computerized point-of-sales system.
Essential Physical Functions:
· Safely lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
· Stand and walk on concrete and tile floors for long periods of time.
· Withstand a wide range of temperatures.
· Work in refrigerated areas.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Position may require extra work hours at certain times of the year when special events take place, such as school activities and staff meetings
Travel: This position requires travel to some of our client schools in the Greater Los Angeles and Orange County area from time to time. Some interstate and national travel may be required.
Required Education and Experience:
- MS Office Suite
- The National School Meal Program, including, but not limited to, meal claims, meal applications, basic food-based menu planning, and production records
- Methods of preparing, producing, heating, cooking, and sewing a variety of foods from fresh, canned, dry or frozen
- Performing multiple, technical tasks, with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions
- Basic nutrition principles
- Use and care of kitchen equipment and utensils
- Cleaning and sanitation methods used in a food service environment
- Food storage methods
- Advanced arithmetic including, but not limited to, recipe costing and using Excel spreadsheets
- Customer service principles
- ServSafe certified or willing to become
- Prior experience as a chef or kitchen manager managing kitchen staff, food production, and transportation.

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
