Founded in 2020 with a mission to make it as simple as possible for families to have access to local foods, Harvie Pittsburgh is a full grocery model that emphasizes customization and convenience. Harvie Kitchen is a department focusing on minimizing food waste through prepared meals, bakery items, house-made beverages, deli items, and more!
About the Position
We are looking for smart and motivated individuals who want to work in a start-up as a PM Kitchen Supervisor. Each week the Harvie kitchen crew works together in our shared kitchen space to prepare food to be sold online through Harvie where members can shop and customize their grocery order. Unlike a physical grocery store, all boxes are delivered to member homes, so you won’t have any customer interaction throughout your day. Steps for advancement on our hourly career ladder are discussed in regular one one-on-one meetings.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate evening shift kitchen staff activities for efficient task completion.
- Train new hires on procedures, safety protocols, and equipment operation; provide ongoing coaching to existing team members.
- Maintain high food quality, presentation, and consistency through regular dish inspections and portion size monitoring.
- Oversee food and supplies inventory levels, ensuring proper storage, labeling, and minimizing waste.
- Maintain open communication among kitchen staff, management, and other departments.
- Ensure kitchen cleanliness and completion of end-of-day cleaning tasks.
- Conduct bi-weekly inventory checks to monitor stock levels.
- Demonstrate commitment to state health regulations and internal safety practices.
- Show culinary independence and enthusiasm for working autonomously.
- Seek continuous improvement and more efficient ways to complete tasks, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

- Typical shifts: Tuesday - Saturday 12:00pm - 8:00pm
- Compensation begins at $18/hour with opportunities for growth

About You:
- Experience in fast-paced food-related environments (production facilities, grocery stores, restaurants, bakeries).
- Connection to food/agriculture with a focus on supporting local farms.
- Physical resilience for repetitive tasks, including some heavy lifting.
- Reliable, efficient, and detail-oriented worker.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills within a team.
- Proven leader.
- Interest in learning and applying culinary techniques with a commitment to food safety.
- Possession of ServSafe Manager Certification or willingness to complete the course.
