JOB TITLE: Laboratory Tech/X-ray Tech
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for Medical laboratory
routine tests used in diagnosis and treatment of disease lab and the drawing & processing of blood. Taking of simple x-rays.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Laboratory Director and Practice Manager.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Drawing Blood, receiving, logging and collecting specimens.
Prepares specimens for technical testing.
2. Identification and labeling of specimens. Stores
and distributes specimens.
3. Performs laboratory/x-ray testing as directed. Maintains accurate daily logs. Reviews logs on a weekly basis to ensure results are received timely.
4. Files reports for XRay/laboratory results.
5. Prepares labels for slides and stains slides.
6. Changes and prepares various solutions and stains.
7. Operates, cleans and sterilizes laboratory equipment, glassware
and instruments. Cleans work area.
8. Answers telephone, takes messages and provides routine
laboratory information.
9. Checks inventory of supplies and assists with placing orders.
10. Manages laboratory/x-ray services in accordance with clinical and
governmental standards and within established budget.
11. Facilitates development of department mission, goals, policies,
procedures, work standards. Maintains Laboratory Manual and reviews quarterly.
12. Ensures accurate and appropriate completion of laboratory tests/X-ray the processing of outside tests.
14. Coordinates cost-effective ordering/receiving/inventorying of
laboratory supplies.
15. Selects, orients/trains, employees.
Oversees work assignments and daily operations.
16. Reviews departmental performance and ensures compliance with
accreditation, legal and other regulatory requirements. Keeps Quality Assurance Manual up to date. Reviews X-Rays on a weekly basis for quality assurance purposes.
17. Ensure Correct charges are marked for each encounter.
The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable for
job position.
EDUCATION: High school diploma, some college science courses.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of six months experience in laboratory,
preferably in medical practice setting.

KNOWLEDGE:
1. Knowledge of laboratory/x-ray techniques to perform routine
laboratory tests.
2. Knowledge of laboratory/xray equipment and testing to
operate, clean and sterilize.
3. Knowledge of appropriate medical terminology to communicate with laboratory staff.
SKILLS:
1. Skill in operating a variety of laboratory instrumentation.
2. Skill in preparing accurate reports concerning the
results of laboratory tests.
3. Skill in communicating clearly with diverse publics.
ABILITIES:
1. Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
2. Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions
and follow written protocols.
3. Ability to work independently.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Laboratory setting, Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic
substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other
conditions common to a laboratory setting.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger
dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Frequent standing and walking
required for extended periods of time. Lifts and carries items
weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires visual acuity and normal color
perception.
