Weingart Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency headquartered in Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) providing services to individuals experiencing homelessness, is hiring for an exceptional BENEFITS ADMINISTRATOR/HR GENERALIST with a substantial background in the not-for-profit sector.
Under the direction of the Vice President of Administration, the Benefits Administrator/HR Generalist (BA/HRG) is responsible for directing and planning the day-to-day operations of group benefits programs (e.g. group health, dental, vision disability, life insurance, flexible spending plan, retirement plans, etc.). The BA/HRG manages benefits administration, including billing reconciliation and manages COBRA enrollees.
This is an on-site, in-office position.
Weingart Center no longer requires position incumbent to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as defined by the CDC and the Department of Health Services of Los Angeles County effective August 4, 2023. However, the mandate may be reinstated at any time as recommended by these two governing agencies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, but are not limited to the following:
- Coordinate daily benefits processing, handing enrollments, COBRA administration, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, rollovers, distributions, loans, hardships, and compliance testing.
- Manage enrollments, determine, and track employee eligibility.
- Ensure timely payments of monthly premiums.
- Coordinate Leaves of Absences and process claims or requests (e.g. FMLA, CFRA, FEHA, ADA, Personal, and Other).
- Oversee maintenance of employee benefits files, maintain group benefits database and update employee payroll records.
- Gather employee data and oversee the processing of monthly billings and the preparation for payment of administrative fees for all group plans.
- Perform routine plan audits and assist with third-party plan audits.
- To assist with the development, recommendation, implementation and communication of all benefit programs and policies to meet the changing needs of the organization and its employees.
- Report, maintain and reconcile the company’s retirement plans.
- Develop and maintain statistical data about proposed benefit changes to predict future benefit costs and assist in the decision-making on possible benefit improvements.
- Responsible for billing invoice reconciliation.
- Process terminations and conduct employee exit interviews when needed and directed.
- To assist in the responsibility of file maintenance, record keeping and database systems.
- To assist in all other human resources areas and duties as assigned.
- Assist with new hire on-boarding and orientation when needed and directed.
- To assist in the recruiting process when necessary or as directed by the Vice President of Administration.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent writing, organizational, interpersonal and communications skills.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and must have sufficient knowledge in computer operations to ensure its accurate and efficient use as a reporting tool.
- Strong computer skills (proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, and Excel).
- The ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
- Exercises discretion and holds confidential any business and personnel matters pertaining to the Weingart Center Association (WCA).
- Exhibits professional manner when interfacing with professional staff, WCA visitors, contractors, vendors and programs and services providers.
- Must be familiar with certain types of benefits and have a general knowledge of federal and state wage and salary regulations.
- Typing speed of 50-55 wpm and ability to operate basic office equipment.
- Candidates must be able to adapt to a fast-paced work environment, have a keen sense of detail and apply analytical skills to all job functions.
- Excellent Communication is a must.
- Bilingual fluency in English/Spanish a plus.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Business Management or Human Resources, or a Certificate in Human Resource Management preferred and three-plus (3+) years’ experience working in a human resources and benefits administrator capacity.
- Experience working in the social service, financial, medical, manufacturing, or legal industry preferred.
- Proven stable employment history.
Salary starts at $55,000, commensurate with experience. Weingart Center offers a competitive compensation and benefits package for this role.
