The Steel Procurement Manager for our Pre-Construction Group plays a critical role in ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of steel materials necessary for our projects. This position involves strategic planning, supplier relationship management, and coordination with various departments to ensure the procurement process aligns with our project timelines and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement procurement strategies for steel materials to meet project requirements.
- Identify and establish relationships with reliable suppliers, negotiating contracts and ensuring competitive pricing.
- Monitor market trends and developments to anticipate changes in material costs and availability.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to forecast material needs and schedules.
- Manage inventory levels and ensure timely delivery of materials to job sites.
- Oversee the quality control process for all procured materials, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications.
- Prepare and present reports on procurement activities, cost savings, and supplier performance.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, as well as federal, state, and local regulations related to procurement activities.
- Continuously seek opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related field. Master's degree or professional certifications (e.g., CPSM, CSCP) preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in procurement, supply chain management, or related field, with at least 2 years of experience in a project management role within the construction or steel industry.
- Proven track record of successfully managing procurement activities for large-scale construction projects, including sourcing, negotiating contracts, and managing supplier relationships.
- Strong understanding of procurement processes, contract management principles, and legal frameworks governing procurement activities.
- Travel as required.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in procurement software, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a focus on driving results, fostering teamwork, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
