Job Summary:
The Youth & Children Enrichment Coordinator at A Safe Place plays a pivotal role in providing high-quality educational and cultural programming tailored for children, youth, and their parents who have experienced domestic violence. Reporting to the Associate Director of Shelter, this position collaborates closely with all programs to integrate enriching activities that support healing and empowerment within our community.
Shift Details:
- 2nd Shift (11 AM - 7 PM/ 12 PM - 8 PM)
- Summer Shift (10 AM - 6 PM)
- Sunday through Thursday
Key Responsibilities:
- ·Provide enrichment opportunities, including art, music, dance, and poetry, to enhance self-esteem and self-confidence among children, youth, and parents.
- Collaborate closely with custodial parents to foster family engagement and support skills development.
- Develop educational and extracurricular curricula tailored to the needs of children and adults.
- Achieve and maintain 70% direct client service hours, ensuring effective engagement and support.
- Use reliable transportation to travel to shelters, hotels, and other local locations, as necessary.
- Ensure accurate documentation and timely entry of client records in compliance with agency guidelines.
- Attend staff meetings, supervisor meetings, and relevant training sessions.
- Work collaboratively within the organization to achieve program goals and objectives.
Skills:
- Facilitation Skills: Ability to lead and facilitate workshops and activities for children, adults, and families.
- Curriculum Development: Experience in developing both educational and extracurricular curricula suitable for diverse age groups.
- Childcare: Proficiency in providing childcare during workshops and trainings, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
- Client Engagement: Skill in working collaboratively with custodial parents and families to reinforce skills and encourage participation in enrichment activities.
- Trauma-Informed Care: Understanding of trauma-informed principles to create supportive environments for program participants.
- Documentation and Compliance: Ability to maintain accurate client records, ensuring adherence to agency and best practice guidelines.
- Cross-Training: Capacity to cross-train and support shelter advocates on the emergency crisis line when needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and Sciences or closely related field.
- 3-5 years of experience working with youth and children in a structured program setting.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills necessary to develop strong networking relationships and collaborate effectively with shelter advocates.
- Ability to be flexible with schedule hours, including Sunday to Thursday shifts with hours from 11am-7pm/12-8pm during the school year and 10am-6pm during summer and winter breaks.
- Experience providing education to staff and the public on programs or curriculum.
- Strong planning skills to develop new programs and manage existing services effectively.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a collaborative environment.
- Sensitivity and ability to accept, understand, and relate sensitively to people of varied socio-economic, racial, cultural, gender preference, sexual preference, and experiential backgrounds.
- Commitment to the philosophy and programs of A Safe Place, including advocacy for survivor and children's issues and promoting a violence-free society through cooperative efforts.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant certifications in social work or counseling.
- Prior experience in a non-profit organization.
- Familiarity with the Sanctuary model and its application in a shelter setting.
Preferred Certifications:
- IMCAN / IMCAT certification (training available).
- 40-Hour Domestic Violence Certificate Illinois (training available).
- First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification/ Card (training available).
