Minimum Required:
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in civil or related engineering field or equivalent;
2 – 5 years of experience in Civil Engineering design related to Commercial, Retail, and Residential site development
Duties:
· Perform civil engineering work on project plans for both private and public sector work including site development, commercial development plans, and subdivisions; utilizing Civil 3D, HydroCAD, WinSlamm, and other applicable software programs.
· Utilizes CAD and various software applications. Seeks technical information from peers when problems are encountered and expected to be outside of one’s own area of expertise.
· Professional design of subdivisions, grading plans, earthwork volumes and storm drainage calculations, design of utilities, including storm and sanitary sewers, paving, watermain, waterlines, waterline sizing, and street improvements.
· Completes design calculations. Research code requirements and design procedures manuals.
· Verifies design computations and plan detailing for conformance with codes, manuals, and design considerations.
· Communicates with project team members, client representatives, review agencies, and others as appropriate to project.
· Prepares opinions of cost, quantities, periodic reports, pay estimates, and data necessary to document acceptability of materials and quantities for final payment.
· Capable of dealing with multiple responsibilities concurrently in a fast-paced environment.
· Ability to work extended hours as required to meet client, project and/or business demands.

Key Milestones for Advancement:
· Has actively sought to develop design skills and software proficiency through self-learning avenues.
· Consistently demonstrates and intermediate level of CAD Civil 3D drafting skills, program functionality, and utilization of associated software.
· Prepare full site design including site plans, utility plans, grading and erosion control plans.
· Prepare Stormwater management plans including report writing.
· Demonstrates a commitment to using JSD Standards in design work and voicing improvement ideas to better the product.
Essential Functions of position:
- 6-8 hours a day on the computer
- Must be able to safely drive a vehicle for meetings and site visits, occasionally for long distances
- Physically able to meet OSHA regulations for being on an active construction site for site visits to active projects
- Must be able to safely visit sites not yet under construction (outdoor conditions/terrain that may include: farmer fields, marshlands, flatlands, wooded areas) without accompaniment or supervision
- Standing, walking, bending, squatting multiple times a day for up to 8 hours
