About Us The Vermont Achievement Center, Inc. (VAC), a 501(c)3 charitable organization, has served the Rutland region and Vermont since 1937. We provide innovative programs in special and early education, child care, water safety, and aqua therapy, impacting over 7,000 children and families annually.
About the Role We are seeking a Therapeutic Advocate (T.A.) for Sheldon Academy. The T.A. collaborates with educators and clinicians to manage student behavior and classroom procedures, develop individualized goals, record behaviors, assist with reports, communicate with parents and LEAs, and provide emotional and crisis support. Responsibilities include delivering academic services, planning lessons, direct instruction, and maintaining records.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement behavior management and classroom schedules.
- Develop and monitor individualized behavior and educational goals.
- Provide direct and indirect behavioral interventions and support.
- Record and maintain behavioral and academic data.
- Communicate pertinent information to students, parents, and LEAs.
- Participate in meetings and adhere to VAC policies and procedures.
- Assist with planning and implementing academic and recreational activities.
- Ensure appropriate crisis intervention and training.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required; B.S. or B.A. in Child Development or related field preferred.
- Two years of experience working with behaviorally or emotionally disturbed children.
- Valid Vermont driver’s license.
- Strong communication, empathy, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle physical and emotional challenges, maintain professional boundaries, and collaborate with various staff members.
Additional Requirements
- Criminal background check and valid driver's license with insurance on file.
- Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to work in diverse conditions, including physical management and crisis intervention.
