Job Summary
The Lead Facilities Technician, Construction, is a building-focused position on the Facilities Team, whose primary responsibility is the execution of in-house construction projects on a private estate. As directed by the Facilities Supervisor, Construction, and working in conjunction with Facilities team members, the Lead Facilities Technician will serve as a crew leader for a wide range of building projects, including but not limited to the construction of accessory structures, storage facilities, decks, bridges and interior renovations, in addition to supporting building repairs and general maintenance. The technician will employ and lead other Technicians in the use of best building practices and operation of power tools and heavy machinery, while always ensuring worksite safety and quality completion of work.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assistance in the development of building and project plans, taking measurements and creation of material lists (10%)
- Preparation, execution and close-out of construction and renovation projects (65%)
- Supervision of Facilities Technicians and job sites (10%)
- Upkeep of workshop areas, tools and equipment (5%)
- Administrative tasks, purchasing, inventory management (10%)
Responsibilities & Duties
- Assistance in the development, design and coordination of building projects
- Execution of all aspects of construction and renovation projects, including but not limited to demolition, site work, foundation work, framing and finish carpentry, siding, roofing and finishes
- Serve as crew leader to Facilities Technicians on diverse projects, as assigned
- Assistance in the coordination of subcontractors and outside tradesmen/journeymen as directed
- Safely operate and lead others in the operations of power tools, light and heavy equipment
- Maintenance of inspection logs, equipment and supply inventories
- Maintenance, cleaning and organization of all related utility and shop areas, tools, equipment, materials and supplies
- Performance of related duties as assigned
- Purchasing and inventory management
Job Skills & Qualifications
- Strong foundational knowledge of a wide range of trade disciplines
- Highly skilled in fundamental building concepts; ability to ensure that materials are level, plumb, and installed with as little waste possible
- Working knowledge of applicable building codes; ability to stop and ask when unsure
- Highly skilled in the taking of measurements, the determination of proper project supplies and materials, and the accurate calculation of material sizes and quantities
- Ability to develop or assist in the development of project plans and designs
- Excellent diagnostic and mechanical skills
- Skilled in a broad range of building trades, including but not limited to foundation work, rough and finish carpentry, roofing, siding, flooring and drywall
- Highly skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, shop equipment
- Proficient in the use of light and heavy machinery
- Ability to inspect, diagnose and successfully conduct repairs or maintenance as needed
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Comprehensive understanding of worksite safety and proper operation of tools/equipment
- Ability to take direction, execute projects as expected and work with team members
- Ability to supervise team members; proven team leadership skills
- Ability to communicate professionally with suppliers, vendors and management
- Commitment to enforce and comply with health and safety guidelines at all times
- Solid basic math skills
- Good physical condition, stamina and dexterity
- Valid Driver's License
- Reliable vehicle to get to and from work or other reliable transportation
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Vocational/Technical training or equivalent work experience
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
- Bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, squatting
- Working in cramped spaces and on step-stools/ladders
- Pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds
- Working outdoors with or without wet, dusty or windy weather conditions
- Working in noisy pump-room environments
- Working with and around combustible and/or hazardous materials, using proper PPE
- Able to drive a side by side "Utility" vehicle (UTV)
- Able to drive a full-size work truck with trailer
- Able to operate machinery and heavy equipment
