Function: Work in coordination with the Head of School, Administrative Staff and Teaching Staff to support the mission and philosophy of Cornerspring Montessori School. ““Cornerspring Montessori School is a diverse community dedicated to providing an environment for individualized education in which the partnership of child, parent and teacher nurtures lifelong learning skills and a deep sense of compassion and social responsibility.”
Reports to: Lead Teacher and Head of School
Duties:
· Services to Children
o Demonstrates rapport with, and respect and kindness for, each child.
o Assists the lead teacher in the health, safety, direct care, supervision and education of all children in one’s classroom in respect to all activities within the classroom and outdoors consistent with the Montessori Philosophy and with the Cornerspring Montessori School’s policies and curricular goals.
o Assists the lead teacher in assessing and documenting individual children’s growth and development for the children in her/his care through informal and formal assessments.
o Responsible for communicating observations of children to the lead teacher.
· Classroom Environment and Operations
o Maintains a classroom environment consistent with the Montessori philosophy and with the Cornerspring Montessori Schools policies and curricular goals under the direction of the lead teacher.
o Shares joint responsibility with teaching staff for the maintenance and set-up/clean-up of classroom spaces and common areas including indoor and outdoor play areas.
o Ensures that classroom and indoor/outdoor play environments comply with appropriate guidelines pertaining to the health and safety of young children. Notifies the Head of School of any safety concerns.
o Utilizes universal healthcare precautions and protocols to prevent exposure to and spread of childhood diseases and infections.
· Services to Families
o Supports the lead teacher in parent communication regarding the care and education of children.
o Orients new families to the Cornerspring Community.
o Attends and participates in Cornerspring functions, including, but not limited to, annual Fall Festival, Parent Education Nights, Special Person’s Nights, Open Houses, End of Year Celebration, etc.
