Veterans Law Office Mary Anne Royle, PS Inc is a small legal practice focused on obtaining Department of Veteran's Affairs benefits for veterans and eligible family members by handling appeals of these cases at all stages.
Overview:
At the outset, the Associate Attorney will work under the supervision of a senior attorney. The Associate will work exclusively on appeals at the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. This work involves performing extensive record review, identifying legal issues, client contact, drafting memoranda and briefs. The Associate must manage case deadlines and workflow. Eventually, the Associate's case load will also include representing claimants before the Veterans Benefits Administration and Board of Veteran’s Appeals. We provide training opportunities for professional growth and development.
Responsibilities:
- Communicate with clients about claim status and claim strategy
- Develop evidence, including affidavits, military records, medical and mental health records, witness statements, and/or non-governmental records, to assist with case evaluation, preparation and representation.
- Under supervision of senior attorneys, represent clients in the Court of Appeals for Veteran's Claims by conducting legal research, reviewing extensive files, drafting legal briefs, and preparing other relevant pleadings.
- Coordinate within the legal team to develop case strategies.
- Perform in-depth research and prepare written materials and pleadings relating to clients legal issues and claims.
- Perform administrative tasks as requered
Skills:
- Strong written and oral communication skills
-Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable working with an at-risk client population.
-Ability to work independently and with others
- Excellent legal research skills
- Proficiency in legal reasoning, drafting and writing
- Familiarity with legal and general research tools
- Proficient in Microsoft Word
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks
Requirements:
- JD from ABA accredited law school
- Active bar membership in any jurisdiction in the United States, or awaiting results
- Previous appellate experience or high interst in appellate law is preferred
- Commitment to the mission of service to veterans
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour
