JOB TITLE: OPTICAL ENGINEER

SUMMARY OF ROLE
The successful candidate will be primarily focused on design and characterization of III-V photonic devices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and perform simulation of active/passive photonics devices using COMSOL, Lumerical, and nextnano.
- Design photomasks using CAD programs such as KLayout.
- Conduct characterization of active/passive photonics devices including lasers, LEDs, and PICs.
- Write technical reports and proposals.
- Assist program leads and principal investigators in directed research tasks.
REQUIREMENTS
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in a relevant discipline including optics, physics, electrical, or material science/engineering.
- Must have at least 3 years of experience in the design and characterization of InP, GaAs, or GaSb based lasers and LEDs.
- Must have a strong understanding of laser/LED device physics and radiometry.
- Must have hands-on experience in building optical measurement systems.
- Must have hands-on experience in characterization of III-V optoelectronic/photonic devices including L-I-V, far-field, spectrum, etc.
- Must have hands-on experience in fiber coupling to laser/LED devices.
- Proficiency in LabVIEW for data acquisition and testing automation.
- Proficiency in Python or MATLAB for data analysis and automation.
- Proficiency in KLayout or equivalent CAD software.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to write technical reports and procedures.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (REQUIRED due to data security policy).

Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
