POSITION TITLE: SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPIST
Kenosha Unified School District is seeking a Speech and Language Pathologist for the 24-25 school year. Responsibilities include providing skilled therapy to students in an educational environment, consulting with staff, evaluating students using formal and informal assessments, completing necessary paperwork and billing, and communicating and working within a team environment. Appropriate State of WI and Department of Public Education licensing is required.
REPORTS TO: School Principal, Coordinator of Special Education and Student Support, Director of Special Education and Student Support
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Plan for and implement a program of IEP mandated therapy for students with language, speech, voice or fluency disorders including the use of appropriate strategies and techniques. Monitor and take data on a student’s progress at periodic intervals and report the progress to parents. Conduct initial evaluations and re-evaluations for students using appropriate standardized and informal assessments. Write initial and annual IEPs and conduct IEP meetings. Collaborate with other professionals to effectively program for students’ educational needs.
CERTIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in Communicative Disorders/Speech Pathology
- Current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction License in the area of Speech and Language (#820)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess a clear understanding of the various types of speech and language disorders relating to language, speech, voice, fluency and hearing in children and adolescents as well as an awareness of the current research related to these disorders.
- Able to evaluate speech and language using current appropriate standardized tests and non-standardized/informal types of assessment.
- Able to write clear, concise evaluation reports and IEPs.
- Assist parents and teachers to understand communication challenges and to promote appropriate communication skills.
- Demonstrate effective team building skills with strong verbal and written communication attributes.
- Understanding of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction criteria for speech and language impairment
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES
1. Serve as a member of the IEP team to:
- Evaluate students suspected of possessing a need in the area of speech, language, voice or fluency
- Prepare a clear concise report including test results and the interpretation of these results and recommendations
- Participate in the IEP process and prepare an IEP for each student determined to possess an EEN in the area of speech and language
- Case manage and conduct IEP evaluations and meetings for students who have only speech/language as a disability
- 2. Plan for and provide a program of intervention for students with speech/language impairments, including scheduling, selecting appropriate therapeutic approaches, collecting data, consulting/collaborating with other educators and reporting progress to parents.
3. Serve as member of building Student Intervention Team
4. Plan for and manage building hearing screenings. Conduct pure-tone and tympanometric hearing screenings.
5. Bill Medicaid for therapy sessions and speech/language evaluations.
6. Plan for and lead staff development for educators (criteria, social narratives, visual strategies, assistive technology, developmental norms for speech and language)
7. Perform other related duties as assigned
